Why didn't the monkey die?

If the Aztec gold curse was broken from the first movie, then why didn't the monkey die when Jack shot it multiple times in the second movie?

um it wasnt broken.. the gold sat there o and watch the scene after the credits on ur dvd bud, the monkey goes back and steals another piece so he is once again cursed
