My surname quite simply means "The descendant of Neil, those that are the powerful or mighty."
One of my relatives has studied our family tree right back to Ireland, and apparently the name eventually gets back to a minor offshoot founded by bastard sons linking to one of the old Irish royal families. So, in a round about way descended from an Irish king or an Irish kings brother, even though that might not sound particularly exciting, it is still nice to know.

What does it mean though??
Coe = "Jackdaw."
Its apparently related to Kay(e).
It might also be Gælic from Comhan (pronounced CO'VAN) as in Gleann Comhan, (i.e., "Glencoe"😉.

My family name is Geddes, however, either from an Old Gælic word for "Patch," or "Ridge," or from gead ais, "At the Rigs."
