He does have pshy shielding, much too high for Emma.

Jean thrashed him with her tk when she attacked him during OZT not only was he surprised that she could naturally generate tk he could not counter it and was afraid saying that he would not have been able to handle another attack, after she was mysteriously transported to the reality he and the other heroes who were "killed" during the Onslaught story.
