I seriously have to wonder about people who think they will be in dire spiritual trouble if they ate a lettuce someone had blessed. In fact I'd tell them everyday they came to school that I was blessing their food mentally, from a distance, like the Prof. X of food blessing.

LOL
There are a lot of indian ( people whose desendants came from india no more than 4 generations ago) here that converted from hinduism and islam to various forms of christianity.

For some reason along the way , a lot of these sects have advised their followers, devotees whatever, not to take sweets from hindu festivals. For most festivals( religious) and hindu prayers, we make sweets and offer a very small portion for a blessing. As a result a heck of a lot of these christian groups ( mainly evangelicals) dont take the sweets saying that they were prayed upon, like some kinda stupid voodoo ritual.

ITS ridiculous. For non-indians, I have to explain that what they are saying is the same for if we refused to eat food by them, if someone said grace. Its insulting when someone refuses sweets or food on that basis. A lot of them understand that point of view.

AS for indian christians, I am beyond mystified as to why they think this. Refusing sweets because they were offered in a hindu ceremony is quite frankly turning your back on your heritage. All of their ancestors were most likely hindu, so they are not only insulting the people now, but also their ancestors. Changing religions is all fine and all, but dont turn your back on the memory of you ancestors.

One of my dearest friends, is muslim and he only takes sweets from a very few hindu friends( lol for divali I have a huge bag prepared for him, he raids me hehe). I can understand taking sweets( or as it is called, Parsad and prashad) from people you know, but flat out refusing aint right.

I'm waiting for a day to talk to my collegue about this.

Well, maybe Christianity teaches that other religions are that of the devil, and by accepting their blessed food, they are accepting their reachings, and therefore now on the devil's side.

Ewwww Biology, lol
Yeah she believes in gravity, why you ask?

You know I think a lot of these people who thump evolution ( especially those who have an understanding of science........ well other than those who turned their back on it like M*******o), would believe that it happens for animals, but not for humans.

I ask if she believes in gravity becuase I'm trying to figure out which areas of science she arbitrarily chooses to disregard.

Unfortunatley, since people have no effing knowledge of history, questions regarding the animal/human evolution divide were addressed almost a century ago.

Gravity is less suported than Evolution. There is no mechanism for gravity. No one know how it comes about. Infact, gravity is so not-well understood that it is not even indluded as a force in the standard model of physics.

It doesn't matter. It affects us in the here and now. It is demonstrated every single day and we experience it every single day.

Now, if the mechanism of gravity were to be taught as fact, on the other hand...

The most powerful tools that creationismists use against evolution is ignorance and misinterpretation. Both, after 3 centuries are deserving of little more than ridicule and dismissal. If you use an argument from the 17th century to supplant modern science, you have issues.

Maybe that argument is just so darn accurate that it works even now.

Similarly, Natural Theology might be out-of-date, but the ideas expressed within it are still used.

I have never seen ANY IDer define creation as science or explain why it isi worthy to be taught in science class.

So I say bullshit. [/B]

I don't think that creationism should be taught in the secular classroom, so I've nothing to add to that.

So does evolution. Just because you can't percieve it with your eyes doesn't make it any less important.

The best part is most of those ideas have been addressed. Evolution and biology have changed so much since then, its practically retarded.

But that's the exact reason why people don't argue about gravity (not to mention that there isn't any religious text against it): it is perceivable by everyone.

Not the point. Aristotle's theory of the "prime mover" is essentially ID.

ummm, why would gravity be included as a force?

Gravity produces a force or weight........ you know W = mass x gravity

but gravity is essentially the acceleration produced during centripetal motion. This acceleration keeps us stuck to the ground, cause the acceleration acts towards the centre of movement or the body.

And from NEwton's gravitational law, gravity is also dependant upon mass......... but if you look at the equation , it is also a variation of centripetals. So gravity is sufficiently explained, well for some.

I thought you were a guy, and I don't understand the point of this post.

LOL, when I had started with the reply, the last thing here was Your reply to Alliance, but I'm busy doing other stuff and the post went up later. I was trying to get the point that gravity can be understood.

OMG, enough with the guy thing, lol
I'm surely being a girl and scouring the net for wedding clothes, lol
