Gift cards rule, easy to buy quick and always effective love getting them...

Far better to get money or whatever then to get a present you just want to throw in the trash...

Well they are called gift cards...

I like money. Gift Certificates are almost like money just with less options and no advantages....don't see the point.

Gift Cards are an inexpensive way to advertise. When you open the present at X-mas, Halloween, your B-day, or whatever the hell you want to celebrate, you got about 20 people seeing you spout out an infomercial for their business. When the recipient says, "I'm going to buy a blender from Wal-Mart!", now Wal-Mart has just provided a commercial for their blenders to a group of 20. Multiply that by everybody in the country opening up gift cards (tens of thousands), and you've got some serious face time off the clock.

But I like having gift cards for HMV because then I know I have to spend money there rather than on something else, so I know I'm definitely getting a DVD rather than wasting it on food or something.

As for gift cards rather than gifts.. I agree that if you don't know what to buy the person if you don't know them that well then they're perfect (although money is better really, unless they feel the same about what I said up there). But if you know the person well I suppose it is a bit impersonal, although I never know what to buy my friends so they usually give me a list of possible things to buy, rather than me buying them a gift card.

If anyone's up for getting me a gift card to the ABC Store this holiday season, I won't complain.

I don't know, I am one of those persons with free will, so in case I should prefer a DVD over food (and man I dig food..it like totally keeps me living) I'll buy one....if I have a gift certificate for a DVD Shop and really, really want a Burger I'm screwed.
