16 teams is to many teams IMO. I don't think in any given year there are 16 teams worthy of a chance. 12 teams is good because u need to give an advantage to the top teams and give them a bye week.. in the case of my suggestion 4.. ohio state, michigan, louisville, and florida. that way u get 4 games 2 weeks in a row, and conventional thinking says u get the top 8 teams in the second week. a playoff system would be so much better for the university's. u could still have bowl games and there would be so much more profit for the t.v. people, the college people, and the advertising people. WHY wouldn't they do it.

Okay, I could go with 12. That would get rid of 6 bowl games and let the 26 bowl games be played on the weeknights of Dec. 8 or so through Dec. 30, while the Playoffs (you'll need 4 weeks for a 12-team playoff) play on the weekends starting Dec. 10 or so and ending Jan. 2. And start the NFL wildcard games the following weekend.

OMG that would be the most perfect situation in the history of football, that would make me wanna watch college football like 10 billion times more than i already do. as i said.. so much more money is to be made with a playoff. Also, teams won't have to wait a month or more to play 1 game. i think it would make fans alot happier too, how have they not done this yet... there's so much to be gained

It would be a football explosion without extending either the NCAA or NFL seasons. The only lost games would be the December Saturday NFL games, but that's no big deal.

I must be missing something. I don't see how you can make less money with 11 games than with 4. Obviously someone's got someone by the nuts, and all for the sake of $$$$. And they can't break free just yet.

What it all comes down to is... 93 percent of college football fans hate the BCS year in and year out. where is the other 7 percent you ask.. the fans of the top two teams in BCS poll

And the guys raking in the cash.

true that.. true that. but they would definately be making much much MUCH more with a playoff. its so sad that its taking so long for them to realize that. but hey, they made the BCS so they must be somewhat retarded

any type of playoffs does sound good but the bowl games are too much of a money making deal to abandon. The BCS will never be perfect, sometimes they screw teams sometimes they are right on the money that is just part of college football. back in the mid sixties did you know that they gave the National title trophy to their team before the games were played? they named Alabama the national champs before they lost to Texas and ended the season 10-1. while on the other hand Arkansas beat Nebraska 10-7 in the cotton bowl and was the only unbeaten team in the country at 11-0. Alabama won the AP poll while Arkansas won the now defunct Grant land Rice poll named after a well known coach. both teams won half a title instead when Arkansas should have won it all. does that sound fair? of course it doesn't naming the national champ before the game is played is much more worse than the BCS and after that season they named the champion after the games are played not before. they really should do a playoff system it is the only way to really determine who the real champion is but the money deal with the bowls will not let that happen too much money at stake to just give it away. eventually the big talk about the BCS will wear down the fans because people will be used to some teams being screwed here and their and being right once in awhile and once that is done then I can see the playoffs coming but not sooner than expected. it is all about the money and somehow they will do it, maybe just through TV alone.

I believe that Florida if they win out should go. I hate the bcs cuz it always messes someone up..this year if ohio state and michigan play twice (nat championship) i will be so pissed.. then u can have a messed up year again cuz the loser of the first gets a second chance..anyway florida or lousiville in my opinion should go to the national championship if they win out, and of course they would play the winner of ohio state/michigan

louisville vs. ohio state for the national championship.. but i'll go ahead and say.. that if rutgers beats louisville, they should move into the top 5 in the BCS regardless... they still have to play WVU too so if they win both of those games... i say toss up with florida.. with florida more than likely winning the toss up. Will Rutgers beat louisville and WVU... probably not.. but i'm hoping something dumb happens to get them to institute a playoff for next year.. because i couldn't hate the BCS more.

i hate bcs too. the way i see it is louisville loses, so florida vs ohio state/mich winner..if they stay undefeated till then..but then again they dont play anybody any good so they should be undefeated by nov 18

I dont want to come off as a hypocrite since I wasnt complaining when USC and OU played for the title and left Auburn out but I never stated that the BCS was perfect.

So I think there should be a playoff, and not just between the top 4 like some analyst think, but I think it should be between the top 16. 1 vs 16, 2 vs 15 and so on and so forth.

yea 16 is the easiest way to go. or 12- with top 4 having a bye.

Auburn had too easy of a non conference schedule in 04. Western Carolina is a division 1-AA team and too many of those on the schedule going unbeaten will be used against you. back in 04 the rule was that any win against 1-AA teams will NOT count towards a bowl bid and since then the rule has changed and it counts now. Auburn should have scheduled a respectable program maybe a team a top 25 team and if that would have happened then they would face USC instead of Oklahoma. Auburn didn't get screwed, they screwed themselves, all they had to do was follow a simple rule and not schedule cupcakes that don't count.

well...u see point is they r in the TOUGHEST conference in football. they did get screwed. why schedule another very tough game when u go through hard games every week. u never know who might get upset in the SEC. cking, usc doesnt play nowhere near as tough a schedule as auburn, and neither does OU. auburn went undefeated and got screwed that year.

They got screwed in the sense that they wasn't playing for the national championship, but OU and USC were undefeated that year, and I believe Utah was also, there might have been another one but you can make a case for them not being there, but you cant say OU or USC didnt deserve to play for the national championship. The only way to solve this BCS shit is to have a playoff system.

ETA: USC is putting a hurting on Stanford right now(not that it will help them) but if USC wins out and Michigan loses to OSU or whoever they have left on there schedule then USC should be playing in the national title game. They have Notre Dame #9 , Cal #10, Oregon #22, and UCLA. That right there would be enough to put them #1 if OSU and Michigan both had 1 loss. Although Louisville might have something to say about that.

lousiville and florida.. they both could beat USC. and i never said USC and OU didnt deserve to play, but auburn got screwed over cuz they had a good chance to win it that year. USC should not play in the nat. champ this year. they have struggled with crappy teams and got beat by oregon state. either florida or lousville should play ohio state/michigan

I know they got beat by Oregon state, but seeing as how they play 2 top 10 teams and a top 25 team they could very well be in the title game if they beat them, so in the end they would deserve the bid.

i still think in this case florida had the tougher schedule so they should go. and if louisville goes undefeated...well they really didnt play anyone but west v. and rutgers...florida has played tennessee, lsu, auburn, georgia ( yea they rnt that good but it is a rivalry) vanderbilt as u saw yesterday they are not a pushover, south carolina who really is better than most thought, and fsu which they should win but again thats a rivalry...usc is in the pac-10. they really should not struggle beatin those teams. i believe that florida this year is a better overall team than USC and should go to the national championship if they dont lose again. even if lousiville goes undefeated once again they havent really had a tough schedule

you didn't read my post clearly did you? I said that they didn't follow the NCAA rules that year and not scheduling any division 1-AA teams, but they did and paid the price for it. that win against the citadel(sorry about that was thinking of the Alabama schedule) did count as a win but not toward any bowl bids and it won't look good for any team in the BCS if your non conference schedule is full of cupcakes and one of those don't even count. the rules about that often changed every year. here is the schedule from 2004:

1. Louisiana Monroe won 31-0
2. Mississippi state won 43-14
3. LSU won 10-9
4. the citadel(division 1-AA team) won 33-3
5. Tennessee won 34-10
6. Louisiana tech won 52-7
7. Arkansas won 38-20
8. Kentucky won 42-10
9. ole miss won 35-14
10. Georgia won 24-6
11. Alabama won 21-13

SEC championship game
Tennessee won 38-28

Nokia sugar beat Virgina tech 16-13 to end the season 13-0.

here is the strength of schedule for the SEC teams that year:

1. Arkansas-22 in nation record 4-7
2. tennessee-23 in nation record 10-3
3. georgia-28 in nation record 10-2
4. LSU-32 in the nation record 9-3
5. Kentucky-36 in the nation record 2-9
6. ole miss-44 in the nation record 4-7
7. Florida-49 in the nation record 7-5
8. Auburn-51 in the nation record 13-0
9. south Carolina-52 in the nation record 6-6
10. Vanderbilt-58 in the nation record 2-9
11. miss st.-60 in the nation record 3-8
12. Alabama-66 in the nation record 6-6

do you notice the trend with teams that have losing records or mediocre years have the cupcake schedules except for Auburn? you cannot have a schedule that is in the lower half of the SEC with weak Louisiana teams and a game that doesn't even count and expect to go to the NT game. I know that it is tough in the SEC but it is ridiculous to try to go overboard with the cupcakes. if a program is going to get any better and make a name for itself then they must schedule tough teams, win or lose they learn their mistakes and get better from it and playing the same crappy teams every year will not make a team any better and the results are always the same. your question regarding the OU schedule and USC schedule:

USC

1. Virginia tech 24-13
2. Colorado st. 49-0
3. BYU 42-10
4. Stanford 31-28
5. CAL 23-17
6. Arizona st. 45-7
7. Washington 38-0
8. Washington st. 42-12
9. Oregon st. 28-20
10. Arizona 49-9
11. notre dame 41-10
12. UCLA 29-24

orange bowl beat Oklahoma 55-19 to end the season 13-0

here is the strength of schedule which is number 5 overall

1. Arizona st. 2 in nation record 9-3
2. Oregon st. 3 in nation record 7-5
3. Arizona 4 in nation record3-8
4. notre dame 7 in nation record 6-6
5. Stanford 8 in nation record 4-7
6. Washington 9 in nation record 1-10
7. BYU 11 in nation record 5-6
8. Cal 16 in nation record 10-2
9. UCLA 19 in nation record 6-6
10. Washington st. 20 in nation record 5-6
11. Colorado st. number 25 in nation record 4-7
12. Virgina tech number 48 record 10-3

PAC-10 teams have to beef up the non conference schedule because the conference itself isn't tough enough but then again a strong non conference and a few good conference teams is the difference in the overall ranking. USC may not have a tough conference schedule but they do schedule some tough teams in the beginning of the year just to help them in the BCS standings and overall standing. their overall schedule is not as weak as people think.

Oklahoma schedule:
1. bowling green 40-24
2. Houston 63-13
3. Oregon 31-7
4. Texas tech 28-13
5. Texas 12-0
6. Kansas st. 31-21
7. Kansas 41-10
8. Oklahoma st. 38-35
9. Texas A&M 42-35
10. Nebraska 30-3
11. Baylor 35-0

big 12 championship game against Colorado won 42-3

orange bowl lost 55-19 against USC to end the season at 13-1

here is the strength of schedule which is 10 in the nation overall:

1. Texas A&M number 1 record 7-5
2. Texas tech number 12 record 8-4
3. Oklahoma st. 13 record 7-5
4. Texas number 17 record 11-1
5. Baylor number 18 record 3-8
6. Kansas number 21 record 4-7
7. Oregon 24 record 5-6
8. Kansas st. 26 record 4-7
9. Nebraska 50 record 5-6
10. Houston 61 record 3-8
11. bowling green 117 record 9-3

Oklahoma's conference schedule is slightly weaker than Auburn's schedule but their non conference schedule which includes bowling green, Oregon, and Houston are much stronger opponents than auburn's Louisiana Monroe, Louisiana tech, and the citadel and the same is with USC. this is why Auburn couldn't make it because the overall schedule is just too weak and the penalty for scheduling a division 1-AA team in the citadel. if Auburn could have an Oregon like team that is competitive and maybe a team like TCU or maybe a solid team from the big 12 then their schedule would be much tougher and they won't have to sweat it out going to the big game but instead they picked a team that doesn't even count towards a bowl which makes them one game short. Auburn tried to find a easy way out but in the they screwed themselves not the BCS.
