What's it like to be a racist?

I second American History X.. don't think I actually "learned" anything from it but it's still an awesome movie.

Monster's Ball was a decent race relations film too.

Just one recommendation per person....

If that's the case, I recommend Happy Gilmore.

Nah, it had this black chick in it..I don't like Negroes as protagonists.

Wait a second...

Halle Barry is black? I see.. now that movie is starting to make a lot more sense to me..

Who's Halle Berry? I was talking about Billy Bob Thornton.

Newsflash, everybody is a bigot, the only difference is in varying degrees of bigotry. At one time, everybody has thought "Damn those <insert racist term here>!"

i agree, but not to that degree. i believe that basic herding instincs cause us all to be inherently weary of outsiders. and as far as racism, how many white people identify someone who is black...as being black. i hear that all the time, people talking about their "black friend" as opposed to just their friend, as im sure black people have referred to me as "that white dude" as opposed to just "that dude". imho the root of bigotry is not in malice, but simply in that herding instinct, the separation between 'us' and 'them' and acknowledgement of, often well-meaning, but none the less segregative. and its not limited to ethnicity. i may unwittingly identify, say, ush as 'that british guy', or bardock as 'that nazi'.

...then you have the willful racist a$$hole unsilent minority. but why bother trying to figure them out?

Racists make me sick. I can't for the life of me understand why anyone could hate another, just because of the color of their skin.

I think it's more than just skin colour these days. Don't get me wrong, I don't give a f*ck what colour someone is, what they believe in, where they're from etc. I've just heard the reasoning behind racism from many different angles and not a lot of people mention skin pigment.

Its strange, racism based on skin colour is qite a new phenomenon. In ancient Egypt, there were a lot of people of different colour, but that didn't seem to be seen as a huge differance.

It was considered same as hight, hair or eye colour.

Its strange in terms that we are supposed to be moraly advanced.

Well I don’t think that racism is as prevalent as people say, there is a lot more prejudice then racism IMO.

Hmm, I think you might be right. Prejudice such as classism, sexism, xenophobia, discrimination based on religion, I would be consider more prevalent.

Yea, I've heard many Asian guys say 'white' people are ugly; personally, I think it boils down to penis envy. And yes, I have seen over 500 Asian penises, I can vouch that your people are not penile gifted. No, I didn't suck off those 500 dudes or anything sexual on my part.

To quote a song from the smash musical Avenue Q: "Everyone's a litte bit racist sometimes...doesn't mean we go around committing hate crimes"

A spoof thread. How delightful.

Anyway, we should all know that racism is not only about skin color but about the customs that come with certain ethnicities that are practiced by the majority of a certain group of people that are, in some or one way, "alike" that another certain group deems inferior. And that's where ethnocentrism comes in a plays a part in all of this. -the idea that ones own culture/customs are better than anyones else's-

I'll even go as far as saying that racism may be biological, imprinted meaning, even if it's mental, but it's not inherent or passed on. But it can be inherited verbally or ideally.

Racism may be an element a part of the fight/flight thing that's why think it may be an in-born trait where some just don't know how to suppress it and just let out. And these people are the ones we call "racists".

Just like murder. We can all kill. But suppressing that desire is what makes you not one. Not suppressing that desire -and that's by actually killing someone- makes you a killer.

What's up with Bardock always getting banned? I know he babbles a lot, but when you think about it, who (besides Debs) doesn't??

Everyone has their prejudices so I imagine it'll just be like being anyone else.
