Can The Thing compete with top tier brawlers anymore?

Doc Samson has lifted a three or four story building and shook a couple of crooks out of it.

Does anyone consider Samson to be Class 100?

No. He does have some better feats than Grimm, tho. But still lacks better stuff all around to be on such level.

An athletic not an academic scholarship. Your trying to put him anywhere near the same category as Doom and Reed in intelligence makes me chuckle.

Im not 😐

Im just saying he was in the same college as those two.

And when you hang around a guy like Reed all day, your bound to gain some smarts 😄

‘Go ahead look at his feats

He has lifted things well above 100 tons’

That’s in turn doesn’t necessarily mean he is Class 100.

‘I personally think Thing needs a strength upgrade. He's rapidly losing what used to be his territory as a Marvel powerhouse.’

Agreed, although the fourth coming World War Hulk may entail an official strength increase. Mind you the last Hulk Thing fight was predictably one sided.

‘And that's a HUGE maybe too. He punched out Hulk before. Now with his new extremis armor... I doubt it.’

Agreed, Iron man is now considerably faster, and can download the Skills some of the worlds best fighters. There is also speculation that he has a healing factor of some kind. The recent Iron Man Durability thread, suggests that he can easily survive Thing level punches.

‘The Fantastic Four would get along fine as the Fantastic Three. But it doesn't really have the same ring to it.’

Maybe tactically wise, but Ben brings something to the team that is far greater than his power. IMO he one of Stan Lee’s greatest achievements, and is one of Marvels most popular characterizations. Its a pity his mini didn’t work out as planned.

‘Atlas - Ben wins’

Not a chance, Atlas is basically immortal and has been one of marvels most consistent powerhouses over the last 2 years. Killing Gennis, and Ko’eing Hyperion are no mean feats. His ability to literally stomp on opponents is not to be underestimated.

‘I swear you guys don't know 1/2 of what you spew out on to your keyboards 99% of the time.’

So you are suggesting we (As in the majority of people on this forum) are the idiots ? …. IRONY !!!!!!!!!

‘As for an upgrade I'm not about giving people random upgrades just to keep them formidable. Thing is still a good character just the way he is. That is he is the team brawler. He provides the muscle while other people provide the skills.’

Totally agreed, Ben development as a character has gone past his role as the provincial brawler, and is considered by many writers through out Marvel as a Jewish icon. Which is why I believe he is Intrinsic to the Fantastic four. Suzanne maybe the most powerful, but her characterization is nothing compared to Ben. If anything she needs an update, I.e. an update in personality.

“i wish thing woudl be at least stated as classs 100 in the comic handbooks if not excess , marvel are depowering charecters these days juggeranut hulk etc”

So what if they are …. If they keep producing good stories, who really cares about power levels, anyway. Some people have got to realize there isn’t an Eternal ‘Pissing competition’ between the Marvel and the D.C. universe.

“I'm saying that if you dig deep enough you would probably find a feat where Spidey lifts 60 or 70 tons yet is still only Class 15 or whatever he is nowadays.”

Yeah I think he once actually lifted an entire building, but that was a unrealistic depiction. As many of you already know stuff like this happens all the time (See the Inconsistent Power thread). I do though think the OLD class system should be totally ignored. Writers usually depict Spiderman around the 1 to 5 tons mark. Hulk, based on the damage caused by his fists to buildings, doesn’t really seem much more than a Kiloton lifter, the same applies to Sentry and Thor.Yet we’ve seen them lift objects FAR heavier. In fact I think I once got into a debate with Leo and D.C. about the inconsistency of Collateral damage, and its illustration of strength levels. IMO the old strength system should be thrown out. The New Handbooks associate lifting ability with a variety of Levels. Although not entirely accurate it gives a far more up to date perspective. On the other I do suggest that one even takes this system, with a pinch of salt. 🙂

Yeah I hope WWH brings a strength upgrade for Ben

Woops 😛 I thought Atlas was basicly just Giant Man 😬

He doesn't really have any limits to how big he can get, and cosquently how strong he gets. His height to strength ratio, is also FARgreater than Giant mans. Which is why Nefaria is so Damm strong. He basically has unlimited strength (In kind of the same sense that Hulk has/has not)

Heh 😬

Still, Ben KO'ed him in one hit with a little help from Thor 😐
