From 9/11 to 'The War on Terror': The tragedy multiplies...

There was no use of the word Orange in that one.

I always got stuck doing poems that had words that were impossible to rhyme.

Once I did one about a girl called Yahne in one of my classes back in high school. It had to have a rhyme (she specified) - thus I had to mispronounce Salami to make it work. It was quite post modern.

Sounds shit.....not quite as shit as the poem I just had the dubious pleasure...or actually the certain lack of pleasure to read...but quite shit.

Ok, can we cut out the argument? He is entitled to point out that the line is a quote from another source, even though that is hardly a capital crime.

Does this thread have anywhwre useful to go now? Else I shall close.

Half a line, Ushgarak. Half a line.

I never knew it was the moderators job to close threads that don't have 'anywhwre else to go' (sic). See, I quoted that line.

Sorry, Ya, but it is pretty much the entire line.

And I don't know why you didn't know that. if you want to be off-topic, use the off-topic area.

I think he just wanted to make the quote joke...he's weird like that.

You're right, you're right...It's almost the entire line, even if the grammar is different, and alternate punctuation has been used to fit my purpose. I should have put 'This next sentence almost appears in an article I read, except I changed the grammar and punctuation'...I can see how that would have brought greater truth to the world. Our dear friend Kinneary did a great job in finding the source of it. Which is something, I was unable to do, as I read the the sentence in an article attributed to the AFP. Even they didn't quote the China Daily for the sentence! Bad boys...

... you added italics and changed the words 'It's fair to say that' into 'obviously', which required a comma. Other than that the sentence is grammatically identical, and with the same words and punctuation. Your clumsy sarcasm aside, it is obvious to anyone that you pretty much copied the whole line. Why you feel the need to look a little more foolish by trying to smart talk out of it when you could just say "Yes, I took it from somewhere else, so what?" I really don't know. Point is, it was entirely fair comment for someone to point out that you took the line from elsewhere. You do not need to apologise for that, evade it, or try and make sarcastic attacks on the poster for pointing it out.

Regardless, this thread needs to return to topic or I shall certainly close.

Kinneary claimed this

Wow, first off, at least the very beginning of that article is taken straight from Time magazine. I was reading it just the other day. I'll have to go home to see exactly how much of it is taken directly from it, though. Wow.

It was just one sentence...it was nicely put, but hardly anything fundamental....the thing is he does admit that he took that sentence....but he is also right that it is totally unnecessary to source it. That's just the point.

Anyways, that 9/11 attack was bad, eh? But the response of the US was worse, right?

Bardock, you complete me.

Ahh, perhaps I should have sourced that particular half-sentence, but I thought it would be a little unnecessary seeing as we're talking about eight words here. If anyone feels duped by this turn of events, I apologise to the world, and ask forgiveness for my abominable sin.

Conclusion: Know what you're talking about before you start talking about it. Don't worry, you don't need to apologise for that, evade it, or try and make sarcastic attacks on the poster for pointing it out, either.

Wait...Should I have quoted that last sentence, too?

I didn't watch any of the 9/11 footage. I won't. Once was enough. I can only imagine the thoughts and conversations of the people on the planes.

Substitute "Detroit Lions" for "9/11 footage" and that pretty much sums up Sundays for you Michigan folk.

dont argue with him pvs, he is a dental practitioner

That's right. I'm a dental tech. I'm also a Corpsman. I've worked on everything from gingivitis to gun shot wounds to heart attacks to women giving birth. I'm a licensed x-ray technician, and I go to college in my time off. In a month I'll have completed EMT training and will become licensed in that, as well.

... What is it you do again?

But, of course, that really doesn't have anything to do with the conversation. I don't know why you brought it up.

As far as you go Floo, fact is, you ripped something off as your own and got called for it. It's your own fault for trying to pass it. I said from the beginning that at least the first part of your post was a rip, and you're the one getting defensive for getting called out on it.

But hey, the mod said to drop it, so it's dropped. Just don't try the personal attacks.

just as long as you dont try hypocrisy....ooops

9/11 was a terrible tragedy

Yeah......... 🙁

Sorry to go off-topic, but this will be a quickie for Debs: I can't think of a more anti-climatic football-related thing for the state of Michigan than to go from the Wolverines to the reality that is their NFL team.

"Hell, yeah, we stomped Notre Dame!!!! Now what? Oh, sh*t...the Lions. 🙁"

sadangel

I hear ya.....

Here we go again...It. Was. Half. A. Sentence.

Fair enough on calling me for it though, but I guess that means I can call you on being an incredibly anally retentive pedant (dental tech/corpsman/x-rayer/student/EMT trainee), because the evidence is undoubtedly there, too.

Anyway, like you said: "hey, the mod said to drop it, so it's dropped. Just don't try the personal attacks." Quoted from Kinneary on September 20th, 2006, KMC, Earth.

'The War On Terror', what's it good for?
