I would usually sympathize with people of this sort, but it is very hard to do so when there were so many different avenues for him to persue help in, especially after he brutally murdered two people, and has put enough into intensive care. Two of the gunshot victims aren't believed to survive.
[BTW: KarmaDog, that shooting took place at the female-only school of L'École Poly-Technique (excuse my spelling if incorrect) in 1989, where a gunman entered the building and shot several women, resulting in deaths.]
