TV presenter critical after crash

The presenter is being treated at Leeds General Infirmary
Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond is in a critical condition in hospital after a crash in a jet-powered car while filming for the programme.
The presenter, 36, was taken by air ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary which has a special neurological unit.

A North Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesman said he was unconscious when they got to the scene and a hospital spokesman described him as "critical".

The BBC confirmed the presenter had been injured during a Top Gear shoot.

Inspector Mike Thompson, of North Yorkshire Police, said officers were dealing with the incident at Elvington airfield, a former RAF base, in North Yorkshire.

He said: "At 5.45pm this evening we received a report via the fire service of a male person trapped in what was described as an overturned jet car which had been driven on the airfield.

"The male occupant has received serious injuries and has been airlifted to hospital at Leeds."

The presenter was born in Birmingham, educated in Yorkshire and lives near Cheltenham.

In addition to presenting Top Gear for the BBC, he also fronted Brainiac on Sky One until recently.

I'm stuggling to find an article but here is the news. He was Filming a sequence for the new series of top gear when the car that he was driving rolled. He was near speeds of 200mph. He is now in hospital critical!!!! All who know him discuss here

Was off the bbc site, didnt know he had two kids, hope he's gonna be ok, i love top gear

me to. the show is ace. i think i'm going to try n get tickets to go down and watch it. i really hope he pulls through. and stays with the show. but i doubt they will air the autumn. or do you think the will but just may and clarkson?

They probably will still air whatever happens, would be cool to go down and watch it though

I love Hammond and I love TopGear, it's my favourite programme and big respects to you for starting this thread. I was gona do it but was scared of a "Who is he? Who cares?" response. I'm dreading the morning in case I wake up and find out he hasn't made it.

Seriously though I'm gutted about this. He's probably the most entertaining person on UK TV. I know that's not saying much but the guy is hilarious. I'm a huge fan.
