When Luke fell...

Just watched TESB tonight and something came into my head which I'd never thought about before - After Vader informed him of his parentage did Luke try to commit suicide by falling? Or did he know about the vents that would have saved him?

Dunno. But if you watch the part when Luke was falling in slow motion you can see that he still has two arms. There is another piece of useless info for you. 😉

I think he was taking the lesser of two evils in his mind.
1. Whatever lay at the bottom of the pit.
or
2. Vader and his Emperor.

well, i think he knew what was down there so he jumped trying to escape the truth about vader... or to escape the dark side for the time being.... that kind of stuff...

This is exactly right

he knew because he was looking down in what i thought, was an attempt to see what was down there. If wanting to commit suicide, why hang on to the bars at the bottom? Ox, he didnt cut off his arm, just his hand.

Just how, pray tell was Luke able to study the schematics of Cloud City during his fight with Vader?

didnt he use the force to fall into the vents?(thats what wikipedia says)

The problem of course being that there are no bottomless pits in enclosed structures.

But you can hit your head rather painfully upon landing.
