In Afghanistan the Taliban is popular, their leaders are free and alive and able to urge people to fight... When there is no real chance of destroying them you have to find other ways to work with them, democracy is one way. And really Osama won't run for president...

Perhaps we should be asking if we should ramp up to all out war. If I saw that the Govt. actually had the will to fight I might even enlist. (If they'd take me)

All out war would serve no purpose either... It would only destroy Afghanistan and their chance to rebuild it wouldn't hurt the idea's of the people and just make their reason for hating and fighting against the US stronger. The same sentiment would be felt in the neighbouring country's... It would hurt the US as well perhaps even more then their tactics now...

Terrorism is an idea its impossible to destroy an idea unless you prove it wrong and the only way to prove the Taliban wrong is by given freedom and equality to all.... And that includes members of the Taliban

what i find the least surprising is that all the dumbass tough-talkers who have wet dreams of being teabag recipiants of the neocon agenda have nothing at all to say. why would they consciously avoid this topic?

i guess not. i just find it disturbing that all the tough talk and blind support was just out of a need to feel right, and that in actuality world events, the 911 attacks, thousands of troops dead for apparently nothing, and tens of thousands of iraqi and afghan people dead...also apparently for nothing....means nothing to them. what matters is winning a thread on an internet forum.

i guess i was hoping that at least the tough guys would act as a voice of reason, and declare that the people who attacked us are about to be rewarded and allowed to continue their rule/threat. yet they fall silent. its like the twilight zone from my point of view. very disturbing

In fairness, it wasn't actually the taliban that attacked us. If they hadn't tried to protect Al Qaeda they would probably still be in power now.

iraq was in no way linked to the attacks on americans or any impending threat. you're just being a tool for deliberately connecting them just to be a childish antagonist, as per your usual jeckyl and hyde manner of posting. hey, lets be friends tomorrow, and you can start making sense again, ok?

i can see th viewpoint of the people concerned about bringing them into the democratic process

you only need to look at very near history for perfect examples

Hamas were convinced to enter the democratic process in palestine...the people voted for them...and the US administration went in the huff and imposed sanctions because of it

is this what would happen if the taliban were voted into power...probably not...the US would most likely bomb the taliban back out of power...

it's likely that they would win elections given that they were actually a very popular governing body because they stamped out a lot of corruption among the war lords
