The problem with Battlefront II is that it makes out that the 501st legion virtually brought about the Empire single-handedly while at the same time remaining pure. That would imply that over the course of 25 years, they lost very little men while fighting in places that, when combined, should have wiped out the entire legion rather quickly.

Battlefront is not perfect canon.
