Cortosis wasn't discovered by the ancient sith, it was discovered by Exar Kun. The red glowing is sith alchemy that was created to deflect light sabers.

Really, I thought it was discover by Loran Nood, shortly after Kun's defeat.

Its the sith alchemy yettoh. Read GAOTS, Kressh and Sadow both had the glow on their swords.

It is indeed Sith Alchemy, or some other sort of Dark Side power.
