1, I think a huge giant being would look stupid on the big screen, and this way it is more realistic. Okay maybe they could have used something other than a cloud but I doubt they want to make this an origin movie about Galactus.
2, Get over this. Believe it or not the X-men comics Had nothing to do with Singer, and this isn't even the right thread.

The Silver Surfer wouldn't be taking orders from a giant storm cloud that travels the universe. Remember V'GER from the first Star Trek movie? The ship was right in the centre of a giant particle cloud, which obscured any viewing.
Galactus is just being held back. If this film has a cliffhanger-type ending, maybe the payoff will be seeing him completely in FF3.

Rotten Tomatoes is reporting Silver Surfer's voice will be done by...
Laurence Fishburne.
Hmmm...I don't know what to make of that. I thought they should reunite Doug Jones with HELLBOY partner David Hyde Pierce, but we'll see. Fishburne has a deep voice; deeper than I thought the Surfer's voice would sound like.
