Does anyone remember...

There was a movie that was on tv back in the 80s that I cannot remember the name of. It was about a mentally handicap man in a country town that befriends a little girl. The little girl disappears & some of the men in town think that he killed her, so they go after him. He winds up hiding in a field disguised as a scarecrow. They eventually find him hiding in the scarecrow outfit & kill him. Afterward, the little girl is found & is ok. Then, the men who killed the man begin dying mysterious deaths.

If anyone knows what movie this was, please let me know.

The movie was called Dark Night of the Scarecrow. I saw it when I was little and it was terrible.
