You had no idea that the UK had a government? Have you been living under a rock all your life? The queen is not important to the country she has no real power now. I have no real opinion of the queen, she seems nice enough I guess.

Certainly on the national level, as long as we have out wonderful plurality method of election, like your nation, we will have a two party system. Actually, we have about a 2.5 party system according to political scientists....so were less majoritarian than the UK 😛
"less majoritarian than the UK"? You realise that the UK has 3 major Parties? Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democrats. Each of these 3 parties (Less Labour because of the whole Blair thing) have the potential of getting into office at the next general election. It'll probably be the Tories though, well... When they actually come up with some policies.

I'm a Demo, but I'm Moderate. I'm by no means a leftie or a hippie; I love my guns and I support the death penalty.
To be specific: I'm socially liberal, but fiscally conservative.

this thread is a big lol.Its DEMOCRAT not "Democrate". And there are many other parties, Green, Libertarian, Constitution, Socialist...not just independent candidates.
There's only 2 parties that matter.
Being Australian and all your poll discriminates against me (bahahahaha!)
Seriously - I am practical and technically moderate in terms of politics. I vote for the party that is presenting the best policy and that I believe will do the best for the nation, not on preconceived moral lines.
Still, My vote usually goes to the Labor Party - since they are more socially liberal, and as such their policies strike me as more more beneficial to the nation in terms of progress. That, and the Liberal party is dishonest and far to conservative - there stance on everything from stem cells to foreign relations. I mean really.
And now John Howard wants to reintroduce Chaplins into schools to see to students "spiritual needs if they so desire" - millions of dollars that are needed in numerous other fields (education, recuritment etc) are being considered for a policy to emply chaplins in schools. Gah. With any luck it is end up on the cutting room floor as it isn't recieving a warm welcome from the public or government.

My good friend Arend Lijphart gives you guys 2.27 parties, but the book I read only had data up until 1996. I guess things have changed in 10 years, but then the US has also changed as well.

Certainly Federally, but locally you can have real challengers. Things have certainly been changing.Thats kind of funny, because I'd describe myself similarly, but we seem to disagree a lot.
Big change... The Liberal Democrats were not a force at all 10 years ago now they are in contention.
