[*]Why do some people from Europe call Americans "yanks"? Does it stem back to the Revolutionary War? Or is it just some kind of slur?
[*]What would the American equivelant of "wanker" be? Is that calling someone an @$$hole?
[*]What does "bollocks" mean, exactly? Is it an adjective? Noun? Verb?
[*]What is Spotted Dick? And why, for the love of Mike, is it named that? 😛
[*]So, if cops in England dont carry firearms, what do they do if the shit really hits the fan? What if someone else had a gun?
[/list]Do you have a question for your European friend? Beit from the England, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Belgium, wherever....Ask away! (I searched for a similar thread, but wasn't yielded any results. Sorry if it's been done before.)

1)It comes from the Dutch name Janke, meaning 'little Jan' or 'little John,' a nickname that dates back to the 1680s when it was used as the name of pirates, the name Yankee came to be used as a term of contempt. It was used this way in the 1750s by General James Wolfe, the British general who secured British domination of North America by defeating the French at Quebec,Yankee is first recorded in 1765 as a name for an inhabitant of New England.
I doubt it is some kind of slur as you wouldn't have named a baseball team after it 😂
2)No the american equivalent of wanker would most likely be "jack off" or"jerk off"
3)The literal meaning of the word bollocks is testicles, although we often say the phrase "that was the dogs bollocks" which means that was amazing etc,
4)Spotted dick is a desert, it is named that because it has spots and is shaped like a penis...nah I think it is named dick after the man who first came up with the recipe.
5)If someone had a gun we would call in the armed forces, or swat team. We have guns...but our patrolling officers don't carry them.

Just a question of time until you use it.
hmm
Maybe. We don't appear to be having as much of an issue with the economy as we used to. The Euro is strong and the dollar is weak.

It would appear that way because ScarletSpeed said they use it in Scotland at some places.

Americans, we are all fat lazy slobs munching on cheeseburgers and wearing cowboy hats.
Minus that "fat lazy slobs" and the "cowboy hat...and you found your American in me. I LOVE me some pizza, steaks, Philly Cheese Steaks, and cheeseburgers.
