I think people shouldn't really hate them, because the fact someone cuts there wrist is nobody elses business, lol, only a chav would cause trouble because they dislike emos.
Let's put it like this, you could help an emo by actually being friends with them, and if you can't do that, just leave them alone.

Granted I hadn't done it in a while until a couple of weeks ago, but I've done it and I've felt remorse about it afterwards.
I also feel I should mention that not all people who self harm are Emo. My boyfriend for example, he self harms on a regular basis but guess what? He. Isn't. Emo.

Tell me, did you ever DO something about your damn problems? NO. Did you check the principle while you were bullied? NO. Did you tell your own problems to parent? NO. Did you visit a Psychiatrist/psychologist? NO. Do you do noting, throw your life away, and self harm? YES. Do you care about people that is in the hospital and disabled to enjoy their life while You can? NO.
