Savvy did my sig
Grr, I saw the new clips you posted. Sound was off for now, but I saw them, and I'm going to vent. Disclaimer: I love T&T, and I love Will, and I will be happy just to see this movie. This is just venting.
Why do the writers insist on a pairing where we never see them together?! If you watch COTBP and DMC, I can bet anything that Elizabeth spends more time with Jack than she does with Will, THEREFORE they have more time to interact with one another and most importantly, DEVELOP through one another.
COTBP
Will and Liz's first scene: Introduces Will, shows Elizabeth is glad to see him, implies it's been a while since they've seen each other. Will is a nervous wreck around her and he actually makes things worse between them.
Jack and Liz's first scene: Mostly a catalyst to get the medallion in the water and to establish Jack is not your average heartless pirate. We've already established he rescued her just because he's a good person. Probably the same amount of exchange between her and Will, granted, but establishes chemistry and a sort of yin-yang between them. He saved her, she (in a way) saved him.
Will and Liz's next scene: Will gets her back onto the boat and bandages her and in the original version (so I've heard), it's much hotter than what we saw. Will supposedly pushes her against a wall and makes out with her or something to that effect. But let's stick to what we have (and wonder why they cut out chemistry between the "couple."😉 A lot of information is revealed here. Will learns Liz used his name and she demures a little and is visibly turned on by his touch. He learns she took the medallion and she admits she did it to save him.
- So we establish a pattern among their relationship. Liz does something unorthodox with good intentions, Will gets mad.
- Will laments a little about his dad being a pirate and the undead pirates needing his blood. Liz says she's sorry and begs him to forgive her. Another pattern: Liz does not show concern about Will's emotional well-being. She shows concern for his physical well-being.
Jack and Liz's next scene: A lot was cut out of the rum-runner's island scene. Probably for time purposes. So we'll stick to canon. We learn so much about Jack here, such as not all his impressive stories are true. Either out of obligation or frustration or both, Jack tells her the truth and she decides to get him wasted so he'll be out of her way as she builds a signal. In the morning, Jack goes nuts and considers shooting her. (start laughing) So, Jack also admits why he loves the Pearl so much. It's his freedom. Liz, although still trying to get him drunker, seems to understand. In the next interaction, it does show a contrast between them but shows her coming into her own. We know she is capable of taking control of a situation. This doesn't happen with Will. We know Jack is capable of losing it and being left completley out of control of a situation.
Trio together at the end: A lot of life-saving, brilliant sword-fighting and a goodbye. We are meant to love Will and Liz together even though he didn't see any of her growth and she didn't see any of his.
DMC
Will and Liz's first scene + jail scene: Will is sweet, I'll admit. The first scene establishes the whole plot line and theme of the movie. Helping Jack makes life difficult for Will and Liz. We jumped from a sweet little couple to a couple that was about to become one flesh. I would have loved to see what happened in between. A year has passed, remember. In the jail, we sense Liz's sexual frustration and Will's focus on a mission. This doesn't make him cold, but establishes a pattern yet again. He went on a mission to save her before, and he never was actually the one to save her.
Jack and Liz reunited: Hell, I don't know what to make of this compass scene. Some say they are flirting, others say it's more of a magic trick in that Jack's dressing it up a little. Either way, there is a lot of smiling, a lot of intimacy here. This can be interpreted as the two of them not being able to help themselves. I doubt Johnny and Keira played it wrong, so they knew what they were doing. Keep in mind, the film has already established Liz is on Jack's mind and has had romantic thoughts about her.
They continue their interaction with Persuasion, Curiosity, and digging at the Isla de Cruces.
Will and Liz back: They work well as a team. Life is good, kraken is beaten off for now. Will and Liz work well together, okay. The writers want to know how so many people miss that about them. Zuh? Other than the end of COTBP, this is the only time they've worked together on anything.
There you have it.
