I loved Norrington in the first movie, and I don't think people give his character enough credit. We see a very similar journey to Will's in Norrington, only his is a bit more understated because he didn't have enough screen time *pout*.
Jack D. said in the commentary that he did "a lot of eyebrow acting" in that film, and it's true...but he did it incredibly well. I was so pleased that Norrington had more screen time in the second film.
And I love his scruffy look, but I love him all spic and span too, in a clean uniform...*happy sigh* Even with the wig on, I still love him. For me, it isn't just about how a character looks but what the character is like.
And (I know, another "and" π ), I loved that in the end, HE ended up with the heart. I don't think that his betrayal though is as deep as people believe it to be.
I have a feeling that he believed that the others would be left alone when he ran off with the heart and the chest. His plans changed though when he fell and was left defenseless in the jungle. The only option he had was to give them the chest....
Otherwise, his plan may have bought everyone else enough time to get away. It was a slim chance, but better than what they had been facing before he ran off.
Two other things; I know that it was in the German novelization, but not in the film itself, that at the end, Norrington attempts to stab the heart in Beckett's office. Yay for James!
The one other thing I wanted to mention that was also cut from the film was that when James finds out that Elizabeth (and more than likely, the others) are "dead", he is absolutely crushed. The picture of him is very nice to look at. He looks heartbroken. π
...perhaps we can all try to make him feel better? π
norrie norrie norrie...the onyl reason people probably didnt like him all that much in 1 was because he stands in the way of liz and will....
significantly enough;
the reason i hate will in 2 is because hes in the way of jack and liz...
funny old world, isnt it π
In 1, did norrie 'realise' liz had feelings for will like he realised she had feelings for jack?
