british Hip-hop

Anyone here fans of Sway, Klashnekoff, Dizzee Rascal, etc?

A lot of it's a very different sound to the American stuff you constantly hear on the radio, but Dizzee's bluntness, Klashnekoff's flow and Sway's wit are immense. If their labels had the cash to be able to compete with the American companies, these guys could be mega stars........

So, anyone?

dizee rascal

Lady Sov is good.

Ummmm....theres a song with her and others called adidas hoody or something like that I though was good.

Dizzee is good too.

Dizzee Rascal is shit and anyone buying into his fake "I like hip hop" facade is stupid.

Jehst is and has always been the best UK hip hop MC.

Sway's funny as hell, Klashnekoff is probably the best mc in British Hip-hop today, but overall, British Hip-hop kinda sucks.

Have to agree here. Dizzee is painful, to be quite honest. I did like him somewhat to begin with but tunes such as 'Dream' grated on my nerves. Although, please don't murder me for liking 'I Luv U' 😮

Yungun? Personally liking him at the moment. A friend of mine who beatboxes for us introduced me to Yungun and also Kano and Aerosoul, who produces both a clothing range and music.

anybody heard of stig of the dump? hes got some alright songs.

I have a biased view of Dizzee, but it's also an honest one. Being from East London, I had the unfortunate pleasure of enduring the whole "Let's all have MC tags!" era. Most of these people actually came from my school or schools around my area. I remember having a conversation with one of my school friends, who I had made a hip hop mixtape for, and Dizzee Rascal (A friend of his) came up to him and asked what he was listening to.

Upon discovering that it was Wu-Tang Clan, he proposed that my friend was turning his back on UK garage by listening to "that rap shit.".

Jehst admittedly has a bit of an accent that I find jarring when listening to him, the way he says words, but lyrically I think he's really good in comparison to others. I can't think of a song by him that is primarily focused on anything stupidly superficial.

Dreams was actually one of the tracks I liked from Dizzee, but yes, his shit is pretty whack.

The Streets is british hip-hop, right?

i don't get what dizzee rascal's supposed comments on wu tang back in high school have to do with his music being wack..

his beats are what makes him dope.. all i've heard is boy in da corner.. 'sittin here' is a wu-banger.

Go back and read the entire context of my comments.

Believe it or not, although Norwich isn't exactly East London, the whole 'MC Tag' thing still happened and is happening still. But mostly it's teens, I always hear youngsters walking past my window with their friends trying to MC or beatbox and it makes me smile to hear them. Mostly they're pretty bad, but they think they're good and they're all referring to one another by their MC names 🙄

I suppose it's tame here in comparison to London, just as with pretty much anything else.

As for 'turning one's back' on UK music, why does listening to a wider variety of music make you a traitor? I don't understand that. Music should unite, not segregate.
