That's a fair point, the help of Kasdan and Kershner was far better than that of Marquand and whoever wrote ROTJ.
And I know that it was those two guys who refined the story and directed the film, respectively.
It just makes me feel better to know that Lucas was involved in everything, so that whilst he may not have had all of the best ideas to put on screen, when the good ones were brought to him he made the choices to use them.
So Empire, (being the best SW film) is not soley due to his efforts, it is hardly "good because Lucas wasn't inolved" as I've heard some people claim.
