Can't view songs on itunes

I click on my ipod, I click on my music but you know how it comes up with a list of what you can view? They're grey and I can't click on them.

It's very annoying since there are songs I want to delete.

Please help.

Right, after you've got iTunes open and your iPod attached do the following:

Click on your iPod on the list on the right, Then check the box labeled "Manually manage music and videos."

That is checked, still nothing different.
