Here's my spin on things. I do believe that blacks are more then 12-13% of the US population, that's why the stats don't add up when it comes to other indicators.
Regarding this former professor, I believe he was primed to say this. And once they realized that this didn't go well, they left him with bag in hand.
I am black, and lived around whites most of my life. When I started working in an area with blacks, I had some flack, but not from all of them, just the ones who didn't respect the fact that their background is different from mine. I didn't grow up with chitlings or gospel music or whatever else they did. Some understood this and we were fast friends, others couldn't take it and sometimes HECKLED me for it. I would try and try to fit in, but it wasn't me. I look like them, but that's it.
Well, one quick true story. You know, when you think things sometimes, others can pick up on this, let's call it a "vibe". Well, I was working as a math tutor and would help everyone just the same, with the same amount of dedication. When I was up for an award, the black students started to ask me where I was from, one black coworker told me 3 times "you know you are black, don't you?". Afrocentric blacks heckled me for not knowing African history. I didn't know ANY of these people, they came out of the woodwork. One lady befriended me, but as usual, it was only to "prostletize" the doctrine of Afrocentrism. I listened to her and told her I would research the matter. When we went out, when one white guy looked our way, she whispered for me to laugh at him. I didn't and she she said something out loud about him "being ugly". He wasn't ugly, actually, he looked like a male model. I was trying to send him positive vibes, and for him to ignore her. If I were not up for an award, do you think these blacks would have given two shits about what I thought I was? I didn't get the award THANK GOD. The award would have been for my WORK not my RACE, DAMIT. They wanted a poster child, but it's a bad way of doing so. When I see excellence in people, I do not see their race, so I think it's wrong to use someone as a poster child when they aren't the type to acknowledge race to begin with. See, that was the reason why the coworker (who is black) said to me "you know you are black don't you" "people are asking what race you are, and you know you are black, right?". I wanted to tell him to get the **** away from me, but I was more religious back then, I wouldn't have even cursed, let alone responded in an emotional manner.
Well, I am trying to parallel this past event of mine with this former professor. He is responsible for his own words, yet, I would not be surprised if he wasn't primed into stating this.
You know there are blacks who are very jealous hearted (just like any race). And when they see a successful black person, it becomes their mission to turn that black person into a conduit for Afrocentricity.
I am more confident to say this today then ever before in my life, I benefited from WHITE SOCIETY, WHITE STRUCTURE and WHITE civility...AND I STILL DO..., too bad I wasn't strong enough to fight for this when I was younger and dealing with these bullish blacks. I would have saved myself a lot of heart ache. I would have saved myself a lot of time.
I should add that I am not against any "centric" thinking, as this usually adds value to a particular "personality" profile in every ethnic/racial group. I am usually liberal enough to enjoy hearing of what everyone is so proud of. What I am against is bulling someone to be part of that group, namely, myself.
I have read theories on Eugenics and find that the superficial aspect of this philosophy has its merits, however, it branches off into radical perspectives such as Euthanasia, genocide, etc.
So, when I was being bothered to read Afrocentric studies, I did it with an open mind, but like with most things, once it becomes too centric, the believers distort the truth to win over their overall objective or ideal situation.
Do I believe this guy really feels that whites should be all killed? NO. I don't believe him, and I do believe he needs to make better friends in life and I would advise any black person the same, watch out for the Afrocentrics, they will use you as a puppet and mouth piece, and when you are in trouble, they run, and you are left with the bag in hand.
And again, they love to get professional blacks into this kind of stuff, because it gives the appearance that they have merit.
We all benefit from white society, does that mean we are living in utopia, of course not, but we are better off talking over the problems and seeing what we can do to solve them.
I am so convinced that there are going to be people who inherently have this kind of mentality, either because of their zodiac sign, or birth order, or whatever personality profile we can think of, there has to be some pattern in tendency that sways people to be very centric. And since I respect this tendency in human beings, I tended to be a bit liberal. However, I do believe those folks cause a lot of damage and can take a person off of their track or path in life.
I think it's terrible, what the former professor said, it's terrible. I do believe he is susceptible and was an easy conduit for the Afrocentric types. Like with my example, I was basically harassed by other blacks, simply because they knew I was getting an award and they needed me to be "black", in order for them to chronicle that event as a "black experience". It wasn't going to be a black experience, it was a "I work my butt off, and if I earned it, I will receive it, experience".
It's the same thing as when a black female looks her best, she will be harassed if she doesn't identify herself loud and clear as "black", otherwise, it will become a big issue for the outer-layer of folks who buy into the black culture. Not every black person was raised in black culture or respects it. Some whites like black culture, good for them, but they see me as strange, and I see them as liberal. I respect them enough to know that people have options, if only these same liberal whites knew that the same blacks that they love would not be so liberal if they were staring back at dark skin and kink hair...and were introducing an "optional" way of thinking...or whatever visible indicators used to tell if a person is "black"....I've talked to so many blacks who are against options, unless it's to pump the idea of "pro blackness", it's ridiculed. ...according to them, once they identify you as black, "you" should act accordingly or ELSE (this is how these blacks think, and this is one thing that liberal whites are probably not aware of, the fact that blacks aren't as liberal as these liberal whites are, they limit themselves and everyone who looks like them, and will do this to you as soon as your eyes met them, you may be asking why. Here's an example. A lot of folks ride their bikes to work, I decided to do the same, as I did this throughout college. Well, guess who made comments of not only *me* riding my bike, but also another white guy? YOU GUESSED IT, BLACKS. I was the only black female riding my bike, I didn't notice it until a *black* person asked me why would I do this and it's just crazy. They would ask me when it was raining or snowing, "did you ride your bike today (crazy)?"...Again, LIMITING PEOPLE (EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE EDUCATED), RESTRICTIVE PEOPLE, PEOPLE STILL IN THE CAVE OR IN THE DARK.)
