I got the imression that any "prep" could only be used to raise defensive shielding.

You just can't attack or observe the other team and a few other minor resitrictions but basically the skies the limits.

Nah. It's not like he has a lab to work with. Reed would still be worthless in this tourney.

But your point is valid...some characters become lots better with prep.
