Yes, you can say I'm splitting hairs, but when it comes down to it, D is music and Lynch is comedy. Completely different styles. Tenacious D has an enormously larger stage presence. Stephen Lynch, as I've said multiple times, is a comedian. He doesn't move when he's on stage. There's a difference, and it's wrong to try and compare them on the same level.

You're looking at it the wrong way. Essentially they do the same thing. Just in different settings. The D rocks out on stage, yes. Stephan lynch is a comedian, yes. But they're both doing the same thing, for christ sake. Making people laugh through their music.
