If anything it's vice versa. ADHD doesn't mean someone is incapable of a high intake of information or of being able to control their brain. It's more an inability to focus and concentrate, right?
Yup, and a tendency to be hyperactive. I really am a perfect example of it. I can't sit still, I fidget endlessly, and I simply cannot focus or concentrate on anything. But it's not made me some out of control idiot 🙄

And you're ridiculously intelligent!! My brother is now in the Royal Navy which is one of the most conformist jobs. Apparently kids with ADHD have quite a high intellectual state. It's boredom, that's what it is 😛

ADHD does not make one completely mentally incompetent.
If they don't take medication and have therapy and are improperly taken care of, yes it can. Especially if it's severe.

I have severe ADHD. Hell, my entire family has it of varying levels, but mine is certainly the worst. And out of my siblings? I'm the most well-behaved by far. And most people would not be able to tell that I am as bad as I am unless they spent a decent amount of time around me.ADHD makes things hard, yes, but not impossible.
His lack of therapy, medication and the fact that he's a child speaks testament the arrest was unnecessary and poor parenting, period.

But fortunately he grew out of it by the time he was about 13.Please don't profess to know more than you do. It irritates.
Exactly. Temporary medication and some discipline is all someone with ADHD needs.

I like you more now.
Out of curiosity, would you attribute your control of your ADHD to how you were disciplined growing up and how you have disciplined yourself over the years?

there are degrees of adhd. judging by the length and consistancy of your posts, i would wager that your case wasnt/isnt too severe.:edit: forgot to add: you are right though, as its no excuse regardless.
It was pretty severe when I was younger. I got into lots of fights and couldn't sit still. It just takes some self control to get over it.

Spot on there little lady. I used to switch topics every 2 or 3 minutes when I was smaller. I still get bouts of impatience here and there, but it's all good.

Is ADHD the same as ADD? Because I had that, and managed to never assault a police officer. Or commit any crimes worth mentioning, really. Of course, my medication worked, so who knows.
Sort of. The H is just for hyperactivity. Its a more severe case of ADD.

My brother used to do all sorts. I remember once when he climbed up the boot of a car and ran down the bonnet, jumped onto the next car and did the same with a row of about 8. When my mum asked him if he'd done it he denied it, then she matched his trainer with the prints on the cars and asked him, "What possessed you to climb up the bonnet and down the boot of all these cars??" To which he replied, "I didn't! I climbed the boot and ran down the bonnet." Mum couldn't keep a straight face 😂

How do you know the kid wasn't medicated, in therapy, etc? Does it say so in the article?

😄
I would say so, my mom raised us alone from when I was about 8 years old on so she had to be strict (raising three kids under the age of 10 by herself), and I had never wanted to be the sort of kid who always got in trouble. I kind of kept myself under control, I suppose, once I was old enough to do so.

The article says the kid was medicated, but that it didn't work.
So how does that equal lack of medication? One method they tried didn't work. That's pretty damn typical. For all we know the mother could have been trying every method under the sun to keep ADHD under control.

whatever the case, can we agree that it was a ridiculous act to call the cops?if the kid was so harsh and uncontrollable, then there were plenty of adequate opportunities to teach this lesson and discipline the child. i think it was the right action, but for the wrong incident.
Maybe she snapped? I mean, it must have been a spur of the moment decision. I don't think everyone should be so hard on the mother.

im just saying that she picked a superficial act to come down on by calling the cops, considering the other incidents. im not blaming anyone, but rather calling this incident silly, because it really is just that when you step back and view it for what it is
Originally posted by PVSTo me it sounded more like “the straw that broke the camels back” kind of thing. Normally if some one is doing so much crap that it is the little thing that finally sets you off.

Originally posted by PVSIf it was a stand alone crime or problem then yes it is a waste of time and effort unless you are using this as a shock value to turn around your kid but there is way more to the story then just a kid opening his present early.
look, i understand. you're preaching to the choir.now admit that its silly.
