There was really no point in executing him except to make Bush look good. He had no power or influence left.

Still, good riddance to him

Okay first of off genius, if you're going to bash Bush get your facts straight. There isn't anything more pathetic then blaming the president for the doings of another country. Bush did not sentence out Sadaam's death. It was Iraq's highest court that sentenced Sadaam to be hunged within 30 days of the senticing with the Shiite majority demanding Saddam's death and most in the formerly dominant Sunni Arab community calling the trial tainted.

Saddam's hanging "must be implemented within 30 days," said Aref Shahin, chief judge of the appeals court. "From tomorrow, any day could be the day of implementation."

"We were looking forward to this day so as to achieve justice, though it comes late," said Ali al-Adeeb, a Shiite lawmaker. "The government should speed up implementing the verdict in order not to give any chance to the terrorists."

Talabani, a Kurd, has voiced opposition to the death penalty but he previously deputized Vice President Adil Abdul-Mahdi, a Shiite Muslim, to sign execution orders on his behalf — a substitute legally accepted. Abdul-Mahdi has said he would sign a death warrant for Saddam.

The Sunni vice president, Tariq Al-Hashimi, reportedly gave his word that he also would sign a Saddam death warrant as part of the deal that gave him the job last April 22, witnesses at that meeting told The Associated Press in October.

Raed Juhi, a spokesman for the High Tribunal court that convicted Saddam, said the judicial system would ensure Saddam is executed even if the presidency does not ratify the decision.

"We'll implement the verdict by the power of the law," Juhi said.

Oh yeah Bush is soooooooooooo bad.

Who do you think gave him that job? The free Iraqi people or the Iraqi government controlled by amongst others and primarily the US?

No of course Bush isn't the only one to blame for this, he didn't execute Saddam he didn't sentence Saddam and with or without his influence the verdict was set from the beginning, but he had his hand in it. The US did, it's as simple as that.

Still that post you replied too was a bit far fetched.

Think of it this way......he got off easy. He died. The real torment would be in some awful prison somewhere and suffering for life.

Well I think it's better that they got it over with. Regardless of wether or not he was alive or dead he would be a symbol. At least dead someday they will move on. I bet in a week or two he's mostly forgotten.

just out of sheer boredom, i yahoo'd "is saddam really dead." there are quite a few people out there who think he is alive.

Nhhhhhhh he got off..........IMO , anyway.

i believe he is dead. however, we never actually saw him dangling for our delight.
