Super Guy and scarecrow756 present... DAREDEVIL 2: THE MAN WITHOUT FEAR!

Hey, y'all. Scarecrow and I have recently been working on a fan script for a Daredevil sequel... it's a work in progress so the scenes may well undergo some editing etc. Here's scene one, please feel free to post constructive (!) criticism:

DAREDEVIL 2: THE MAN WITHOUT FEAR
A Script by Nick Garland and Sartaj Singh

SYNOPSIS

Set one year after the events of the hit movie "Daredevil", Daredevil 2: The Man Without Fear continues the epic tale of blind lawyer and vigilante Matt Murdock. With the Kingpin imprisoned, Matt's life appears far happier, and this feeling is only added to when he meets the beautiful blind woman Milla Donovan. But when the Kingpin's surviving former lieutenants clash and a terrible gang war begins in Hell's Kitchen, the Man Without Fear is put to the ultimate test!

SCENE ONE: INTRO
A dark night. A blind woman, Milla Donovan, is slowly walking home, tapping her cane ahead of her. She is halfway down an alley when she hears chuckling.
Milla: “Who’s there?”
Thug 1 (voice): “Hey, baby… it’s getting’ late… maybe ya should stop here for a while!”
Thug 2 (voice): “Let’s get ‘er, guys!”
Milla: “Oh my God! Somebody, please… HELP ME!”
4 thugs advance out. 2 hold knives, one has a baseball bat and one has a crowbar.
Thug 3: “Hey, baby… don’t go screamin’. Shuddit, or we’ll smash yer frickin; face in!”
Milla: “Please… I’m blind… don’t…”
Thug 1 moves in, grabs Milla in one arm and tries to kiss her. Milla cringes back , eyes shit. Zoom on Milla’s face.
Milla: “God… oh God…”
Milla falls to her knees. Zoom out.
Milla: “Oh… my…”
Daredevil has Thug 1 by the scruff of his neck, lifted in the air.
Daredevil: “Scum! Stay out of Hell’s Kitchen!”
Daredevil hurls Thug 1 aside and Thugs 2, 3 and 4 rush at him, yelling. Daredevil whips out his billy club and hurls it, knocking out Thug 3! He somersaults and kicks Thug 2 down and then lands, spinning to roundhouse kick Thug 4 out! Milla is huddled on the ground, whimpering.
Daredevil: “You’re OK now, ma’am. Now run… get away from here.”
Milla: “I… I can’t. I’m… blind…”
Daredevil: “I see… allow me.”
Daredevil sweeps Milla up in his arms, grabs his billy club and grapples onto a roof. Milla clings on to him in terror.
Milla: “Who are you…?
Daredevil: “I’m Daredevil.”
Milla: “But… who are you… REALLY?”
Daredevil: “I’m afraid that that’s a secret I can never explain.”
Daredevil lands and puts Milla down on the pavement by a main road.
Daredevil: “You should be safe now!”
Daredevil runs and grapples away…

SCENE TWO: The Prosecution

Caption: “One year earlier…”

In a small room Matt Murdock is getting ready for his court case. Just as he puts his jacket on a man comes into the room. His name is Franklin Nelson. He is Matt’s friend and partner.

Franklin Nelson: “Are you sure we should to go through with this Matt?”
Matt Murdock: “As sure as I ever am Foggy.”
Franklin Nelson: “It’s not too late to back out. There are plenty of other capable lawyers out there who could prosecute Fisk.”
Matt Murdock: “Listen Foggy this guy has been controlling most of the crime in New York for the last couple of years. Why should we not make sure he stays behind bars. Tell me that!”
Franklin Nelson: “Because when he gets out he will hunt you down… he still has support outside of jail, you know!”
Matt Murdock: “Well let’s hope Daredevil can be there to save the day. And Foggy, did it not occur to you that Wilson Fisk will have more of a grudge against Daredevil for turning him in than against us?”
Franklin Nelson: “Well okay, Matt… you sound so confident. I guess I am just too anxious.”
Franklin Nelson: “Well… We have a job to do. We are in this together. And I can’t back out now and leave you with someone like Deeks. We are a team.”
Matt Murdock: “Glad to hear you still have faith in me.”
Franklin Nelson: “Nah… just looking out for you, Matt… someone has to.”

Suddenly Matt does up his tie and puts on his glasses and looks to Franklin Nelson.

Matt Murdock: “To Justice, Foggy.”
Franklin Nelson: “To Justice, Matt… and by god we must try and uphold it every single day of our lives!”
Matt Murdock: “That we do, partner… enough chit chat or we’ll be late!”

Scene Change

Matt Murdock is in court standing up in front of the judge talking.

Matt Murdock: “And with all this evidence, your honour, I hope that I have proved to you that Wilson Fisk is guilty.”

Usher: “All court rise.”

The Judge: “Yes, thank you, Mr. Murdock. Now I and the jury will retire to decide the verdict based on all the evidence given today.”

Then with those words spoken the judge and jury walk out of the courtroom.

Ext Scene

Scene Change

Outside the court room Matt Murdock and Franklin Nelson are standing and talking.

Matt Murdock: “You think we gathered enough evidence?”
Franklin Nelson: “Yes we did I mean look at all those files Fisk`s assistance gave us. What was his name… Wes or something?”
Matt Murdock: “Wesley. Wesley Owen Welch.”
Franklin Nelson: “Yes that was it.”

Suddenly Matt looks at his watch.

Matt Murdock: “They have been out for half an hour. “
Franklin Nelson: “Well Matt it is a big case.”
Matt Murdock: “I know Foggy but look at the amount of evidence we gave.”
Franklin Nelson: “You don’t think he been paying people?”
Matt Murdock: “You never know Wilson Fisk is one slippery costumer.”

From the courtroom out comes the Usher.

Usher: “The judge and jury have come up with a verdict you may come back into the court room.”

Matt Murdock: “Thank you.”

With that Matt and Franklin make themselves back in the court room.

Usher: “All court rise.”

The Judge: “Based on all the evidence seen today I find that Wilson Fisk is guilty on the charges of second degree murder and smuggling of illegal drugs. Your sentence is twenty years in prison without bail. You will be put within Riker’s Island Penitentiary… and there you shell remain for twenty years.”
2 cops cuff Fisk and lead him away. He glares at Matt as he passes.
Fisk: “I’ll be back, Murdock… you can count on that. And when I do… you’ll pay!”

SCENE THREE: A MEETING OF CRIME LORDS

Caption: “The Present.”
A skyscraper in New York City. Inside, the kingpin’s 8 former lieutenants are gathered around a conference table with guards all around the room. The lieutenants are: Hammerhead, Alexander Bont, Leland Owlsley, Mr. Silke, Silvermane, Black Tarantula, Richard Fisk (Wilson’s son) and Billy Russo (who is not yet horrifically scarred).
Bont: “Gentlemen, we appear to have a problem! Wilson Fisk, The Kingpin, is in prison, and we are left without a head to the mobs of New York City. We need a new Kingpin, gentlemen… but who shall that be?”
Hammerhead: “It’s obviously gotta be me, ain’t it, Bont?”
Bont: “I believe that is open to discussion… Hammerhead.”
All the mobsters being talking, getting louder and louder, arguing. Finally, Bont stands up.
Bont: “Gentlemen, please…”
Suddenly, 4 of the guards pull out handguns.
Silvermane: “What the…?”
Owl rises. The 4 armed guards shoot the other guards.
Owl: “I am sorry, gentlemen. But there shall be only one candidate to the Kingpin’s role… once you are all dead! Kill them!”
Hammerhead: “Owlsley, you son of a…”
The guards shoot Hammerhead, Silke and Silvermane down. Fisk and Black Tarantula run at Owl.
Fisk: “Treachorous prick!”
Owl spins around and grabs Fisk’s neck, snapping it. Bont pulls out a handgun and shoots a guard. 2 gunshots miss Bont, who dashes out of the door. Owl leaps at Black Tarantula but 2 guards shoot Tarantula first. Russo puts a handgun to Owl’s head.
Russo: “Go ta Hell, you ****ing prick!”
Owl: “No… I don’t think so!”
Owl spins around and hurls Russo through the window, laughing manically.
Owl: “Is that all of them?”
Guard 1: “No, boss. Bont got away.”
Owl: “Then get after him, idiots! What the Hell do I pay you for!? I can’t take any chances, dammit!”
Guard 2; “Yes, sir…”
The guards run out. Owl sits in a chair, breathing deeply. Suddenly, Hammerhead staggers up and aims his handgun.
Hammerhead: “Owlsley!”
Owl stares and dives backwards, crashing through the window. His overcoat swrls back and he glides away. Hammerhead stumbles to the window and watches owl’s getaway.
Hammerhead: “Shit… shit!”

Outside, Alexander Bont runs into the street and throws open the back door of his limo. He stares in. His drivers are dead, the steering wheel and car controls destroyed.
Bont: “Dammit!”
Bont dashes down the road and sees a cab. He raises his arm.
Bont: “TAXI! TAXI!”
Suddenly, someone puts a gun to Bont’s head. Guard 1 is standing there, gun raised.
Guard 1: “Gotcha, Bont!”
Bont: “Damn…”
Suddenly, a hand reaches over and twists Guard 1’s neck around until it snaps. The corpse falls to the floor. Melvin Potter is standing there in a vest and jeans.
Melvin: “I picked up the guys’ distress call, sir. Are you OK?”
Bont: “Yes, Melvin, and I believe I have more work for you… much more work.”
Guard 2 (voice only): “Don’t move!”
Guard 2 and 3 have their guns aimed at Bont.
Bont: “Melvin… would you please do your job?”
Melvin pulls a huge blade from his pocket and hurls it. The blade slashes across Guard 2’s throat and embeds itself in Guard 3’s head.
Bont: “Thankyou… Gladiator. Now, I believe we had better make ourselves scarce.”

SCENE 4: Milla Reflects

Milla Donovan is sprawled across the end of her balcony, looking thoughtful. Her friend, Lori, walks onto the balcony.
Lori: “You ignoring me, Milla?”
Milla: “What…? Oh no… I was just… I spaced out…”
Lori: “You just walked out of the meeting and came up here? You OK, sweetie?”
Milla: “I’m just… I don’t know…”
Lori: “Are you still freaked out about what happened yesterday with that Daredevil dude?”
Milla: “I don’t know how to explain it, Lori. The thing is… I… can I ask you…? Did you get a good look at him?”
Lori: “Yeah… yeah. He was right there… in broad daylight.”
Milla: “What did he look like?”
Lori: “Well… you couldn’t see the top half of his face ‘cos he was wearing a devil mask…an’ you couldn’t see his eyes. I mean… no one could. But what you could see… his lips… his chin… his bod… he’s beautiful.”
Milla: “Really?”
Lori: “Hell, yeah… he had the best tush I’ve ever seen… ever! Hey… have you got a thing for him?”
Milla: “No…”
Lori: “Oh my God! You do! You’ve got a crush on a superhero!”

SCENE FIVE: THE OWL

The Owl sits in his penthouse office, smoking a cigar behind his desk. 2 assistants flank him. Owl is in a very bad mood.
Owl: “They’re dead!? All four of my hitmen are dead!? What do I pay those idiots for!? I sent 3 overpriced assasins to kill that old prick Bont and what do I get? Three dead bodies to worry about and my money wasted! I want Bont and Hammerhead dead, but all I’m surrounded with is IDIOTS!”
Assistant 1: “Eyewitness reports suggest Bont might’ve been usin’ a mask.”
Owl: “A mask!? In the mob!? That prick… he’s as bad as Fisk. Well… if he wants to play dirty, then so shall I. Give me your phone!”
Assistant 1 produces his mobile and hands it to Owl. Owl dials a number and puts the phone to his ear.
At Riker’s Island Penetentiary, the warden picks up.
Warden: “Hello? Riker’s Island Penetentiary.”
Owl: “Warden… I wish to speak to one of your prisoners, Mr. Benjamin Pondexter. I am his chaplain.”
Warden: “What’s this about?”
Owl: “I’m afraid I have to cancel our next appointment and I know how upset Mr. Pondexter gets if he misses out on one of our sessions. I would hate myself if because I failed to sufficiently warn Mr. Pondexter of this development he lost his temper… and you know what Mr. Pondexter is like when he gets angry.”
Warden: “Oh, of course… I’ll let you talk… I’ll just go and find him.”
Owl chuckles as he hears the warden hurrying along. The assistants smirk.
Pondexter (in shadow): “Hello?”
Owl: “Benjamin, this is Leland Owlsley, an old associate of your former employer. I am in some troubles and require your services. Of course, I pay optimum rates… and you can be free within 24 hours if you accept my generous offer.”
Pondexter: “Sounds satisfactory… I’m listering.”
Zoom to see Pondexter is Bullseye, smirking and leaning on the wall in his solitary cell.

SCENE 6: HAMMERHEAD

In a huge skyscraper overlooking the hustle and bustle of New York, Hammerhead stands thinking of his next move against Owl. Hammerhead is a medium built man who has a bigish head and he is wearing a suit. He is smoking a Cuban cigar and is pasing greatly.

Hammerhead: “I knew that **** Owlsley could not be trusted. Why did Bont even consider him in the first place? I was lucky to get out alive, but now I will have my revenge on The Owl. For years I been keeping it low key but now is the time to let the beast out of the cage. Now is the time where I will unleash my army and soon I will rule this city!”

Suddenly one of Hammerhead’s men comes running into the room. At that moment Hammerhead pulls a revolver out of his pocket. In his anger he shoots his man in the belly.

Hammerhead: “What have I told you about knocking you pathetic excuse for a henchman? How am I supposed to think straight when my men come running in like little children!? What is it?”

At that moment in a near whisper Hammerhead’s henchman starts talking.

Henchman: “He’s… here…”

As these words come out of his mouth Hammerhead kneels down beside his henchman and grabs him.

Hammerhead: “Who is here?”

Zoom to the end of the room where a tall man is standing. He is wearing a dark suit and has pale skin.

Tombstone: “Hammerhead, I assume. Tombstone at your service. You want Owl`s head… I can deliver it to you… on a pike!”

SCENE SEVEN: Milla Recognises Matt

Matt walks out of the court house, smiling. Suddenly, Milla bumps into him.
Matt: “Oh, I’m sorry… I…”
Milla: “Your voice… do I know you?”
Matt: “No… I don’t think so. The name’s Murdock, by the way. Matt Murdock. I’m a defence attorney.”
Milla: “Oh, uh… right…”
Matt: “Well… anyway… goodbye…”
Matt walks away. Milla suddenly gasps.
Milla: “Of course…! Daredevil!”

That's all thus far, folks. Any opinions?

SCENE EIGHT: Milla investigates

Lori is watching TV in her apartment. The doorbell rings and she turns off the TV, then gets up and opens the door. Milla is standing outside.
Lori: “Milla… hi… what’s up?”
Milla: “Lori… have you ever heard of Matt Murdock?”
Lori: “The lawyer?”
Milla: “I think so… yeah.”
Lori: “I know he’s a partner in this firm…. Nelson and Murdock. They’re set up near Central Park… I could find you an address, if you like. But… why?”
Milla: “Nothing…”
Lori: “Seriously? Is this some kind of blind club thing?”
Milla: “What?”
Lori: “Didn’t you know? Murdock’s blind too!”
Milla: “Really? Huh… weird.”
Lori: “I guess it is pretty impressive… a blind lawyer. Anyway, I’ll just check his address and you can go meet Mr. Murdock. You want me to come?”
Milla: “No… no… I wanna do this alone.”

Scene change. Matt is writing at his desk. The door opens and Karen Page, his blonde secretary, is standing there.
Karen: “Matthew? There’s a woman outside who wants to see you.”
Matt: “Who is she?”
Karen: “She says her name is Milla Donovan… ring any bells?”
Matt: “Perhaps. Send her in.”
Karen walks out. Moments later, she returns, leading Milla. She shows Milla to a seat. Milla sits and Karen walks out, shutting the door.
Matt: “Miss Donovan… I am afraid I still don’t recall us meeting.”
Milla: “Oh, I think you might if I refresh your memory, Mr. Murdock. I was being attacked and the so- called Daredevil swung down and saved my life. I believe you’re Daredevil, Mr. Murdock. I recognised your voice when I bumped into you on the court room steps.”
Matt: “I see. But could you explain how a blind man could be a superhero, Miss Donovan? No? Well, on the other hand, maybe I am your hero… this Daredevil. Perhaps we could talk more over coffee tomorrow?”
Milla: “Oh… I… uh… sure! 3 o’clock?”
Matt: “3 o’clock it is… Milla.”

I think they should do something like the Born Again storyline - that's how the Kingpin should get his revenge out of prison. Fewer garish supervillains, and more streetwise flavour is what I want. Otherwise, how different is it from the Sam Raimi Spider Man or Tim Burton's Batman?

Hm... I'm trying to keep out garishness.... mob related villany. And then we planned to write a sequel based on the Kingpin's revenge and a Born Again- esque storyline...

My advice would be to tweak the dialogue. Daredevil's never been very chatty, more brusque (especially with the women). Its part of his charm

Can anyone really see modern day Daredevil saying Ma'am?

Yes ma'am.
