No dawg, I agree with everything you said about this movie especially this post:

Just saw this, in 3-D.Overall? I was underwhelmed. The insane amount of hype didn't help and the praise it's recieved from the everyday joe/common moviegoer didn't help either. I couldn't help but have somewhat high expectations, even though I wasn't too impressed by the trailers and I had a somewhat lukewarm reaction to them.
The human characters aka bad guys were about as interesting as cardboard. "Unobtainium"? Gimme a break, a 5 year old could come up with a less blatant/cheesy name for the underexplained fuel source.
Jake Sully was a decent hero and Sam Worthington did a fine job. But I don't think we'll remember him as one of the all-time, memorable heroes of film like Luke Skywalker, Indiana Jones, etc. Even he should've had more character development though, or at least something that would make me care for him more.
Everyone who is saying how the story is unoriginal is pretty much right. At no point was I surprised by anything that happened in the movie.
I will say what everyone else is saying though, it is visually amazing to look at and probably should be seen in theaters for this reason; not a big fan of 3-D though, I find it kind of distracting.
Final thoughts - Looks expensive, some nice battles, weak story - something I would've loved if I was 10 years old again.
Rating... maybe a 7/10 or so.
District 9 was a far better film, and it covered similar thematic material a LOT more effectively. And as far as "epic" goes? I'd rather watch the Lord of the Rings any day. I didn't feel like Avatar was that epic. But I did like Avatar, I kind of want to watch it again purely for the world of Pandora and the visuals on display.
In fact, I thought that post was by far the best description of this movie over any other review. My dad told me, before I saw Avatar, that it made the battle scenes in Lord Of The Rings look tame. I totally disagree. I thought the battles in LOTR were way more stunning and detailed. I also thought the creatures in LOTR were far more incredible. There is a sense in LOTR that you can reach out and touch the creatures because they are so detailed and so close to you, but even in 3-D, I only felt that way one time in Avatar. And as far as story goes, of course Avatar was no LOTR, being that LOTR was an adapted piece of amazing literature into a movie. So yeah, I agree with you 100%. You are dead on.
I'm flattered!
But yeah I definitely agree with the Lord of the Rings comparison. When I first saw the trilogy in theaters, I was pretty blown away by the battle sequences. Avatar, not so much. They were cool, but not that memorable. And the inclusion of actual make-up/practical effects made the creatures more believable, too.
I didn't intend to use the same phrase - "I was underwhelmed" - twice, but I guess that is just my impression of Avatar.

The fact that the world of Pandora has so much things to introduce to you should make this movie be good. Every creature, every plant, every mountain has something interesting to give you. That's what makes the movie good.
just wait until the sequel comes out to further explore Pandora

Pandora was cool; the best part of the movie in fact. But I need more than a pretty planet if I'm gonna sit down, satisfied, for 3 hours, it only lasts me so long.

I don't know but I am always sucked into a movie when it introduces things like Pandora did. Stuff like Jake using his avatar, or him learning to use the creatures, capture then, and of course the introduction of creatures. Because of how it's played out, the 3 hours seemed nothing to me. It was as if it never happened. This is why i went to watch it 3 times. Granted, I didn't play for the last 2.
The 3-D was an addition to what drew me into the movie. I hate how 3-D is used in movies like Ice Age, Beowulf, and stuff like that. Avatar used it to make you more welcomed to the environment. It's a change I like
Yeah, that's how I can tell a movie is really good: I don't find myself wondering when it is going to end.
wow. avatar has now made over 1 billion dollars worldwide in the boxoffice. simply amazing.
it took titanic a year to do 1.8 billion and avatar 1 billionin about 3 weeks.
only 3 movies have made a billion dollars worldwide and that lotr return/king titanic and avatar. james cameron directed 2 of those movies..
I stil haven't seen it yet cause it's been sold out but do we have something that'll finally beat titanic..

Hopefully, it does.
In fact, there is a book that someone wrote about Pandora(from Avatar) and it introduces many creatures, locations, tales, and so much more. Hopefully, if it does come out, it takes uses the book as a source
Cameron certainly could use the book as a source and go from there

at the rate this film has gone Titanic could be in trouble
No. Unfortunately, Titanic will never be in trouble. I doubt there will be a movie to beat it in many years, perhaps even decades. I have no idea how it made that much. I'm going to guess and say Avatar will peak at 1.4 Billion if lucky.
I like how it got 68.3 Billion for it's 3rd weekend. The previous one was 45 from Spiderman.

You mean million, and, yes, I know you know what it is and that it was a slip. But, there's some people around here that might think you are serious, and then poop their pants. Hell, I almost pooped their pants, too.

I agree that LOTR CGI was better, again i think it's because of Avatars drastic colors like the blue na'vi.
