why are some Hard drives so big ?

I saw a 400GB external hard drive on ebay and was suprised at the size . Why do they make them so big ? 😕

I have a terabyte external workstation.

I am a media and data collector. I store movies, TV shows, Games, music, programs, pictures, videos, and other things. I'm constantly loading stuff on to it, and it will fill up eventually and I’ll have to buy more.

so how many songs can u store on there ?? The only thing is they cost a fortune I saw one for £300 !

The funny thing is there are bigger HDD out there such as Hitachi's Terabyte Servers. The one you saw on ebay are offered to casual customers who either have their own small business servers or as a backup HDD.

I haven't checked how many songs I have but my Music folder is 68 gigs. Mine cost me 700 bucks.

i thought they where made for big company not people like us

They're made for anyone who wants and can afford them.

...yes. It's just a regular hard drive.

I thought we are not allowed to download movies or music ?

There are legal methods of doing so, you can purchase music online and download it, or rip CDs and DVDs and save them to your computer, etc.

Not to mention that not allowed does not mean not possible.
