Typical.
They announce one date where they will reunite and people are already assuming there's going to be a new tour, new album.
Get a grip. Extremely exciting, sure, but don't get ahead of yourself.
Either way, it's hardly unforseeable. It was obviously going to happen sooner or later.

I don't see a tour on the horizon. Audioslave has made 3 albums in less than 5 years, and killed the tour circuit. They'll support their new album sometime this year, and RATM is going to be a one time thing, me thinks.
Besides, SOAD's already taken their crown, and RATM haven't been relevant for 8 years now. In retrospect, I think they were insanely overrated, even if their first album was genre shaking.
Rage haven't been relevant because they haven't been around, not because they lack the ability.
It was never about there being a crown, Rage and System probably hold the opinion that the more politcally intelligent bands are around, the better. After all, Serj Tankien and Tom Morello DO run Axis of Justice.
People call Rage overrated because their first album is one of the most important albums ever, the two following original albums didn't seem much in comparison to most people. I disagree, but that's me.

I'd be all for seeing them on tour. Very high energy, fun show, in a small venue.

"Evil Empire" had maybe two tracks I liked, the rest just failed to grab me. "Battle" is great, obviously, having sold as well as it did. My suggesting their being overrated doesn't take away from the quality of their music. I just think a chunk of their fanbase, like SOAD's, like the music while the message falls on deaf ears. It's their following, not the actual arrangements that have me believing such.

I get what you're saying but I don't think liking the music and not having an active interest in the politics is a bad thing. Zack knows what he's on about, he's not just saying it and that's very good, he's an amazing lyricist but I just feel like, as with any band, the music is what made them Rage, not the message.
The message is there for those who appreciate it or want inspiration in the same area. I think a lot of fans just liked the lyrics because they knew there was a message, not necessarily understanding said message.
