"Ted Elliott: It's a study of what is a pirate. How free can you really be? What are those trade-offs? Jack kind of represents the ultimate free man—he really has no obligations to anybody, and, obviously, if you make an obligation to somebody, you're limiting your own freedom. But, if you're not willing to limit your own freedom, you can't have those relationships. If you look at Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest from that point of view, you kind of see what really leads to Jack's ultimate fate and why Elizabeth does what she does."
Oh my gosh! How can we undarstand it?
It seems to me, and I don't know much about Ted Elliott, is that Jack makes it very obvious in DMC that he feels incomplete and at least wants to experiment with having a relationship and Liz sees that and takes advantage of it to trap him. It just sounds like they're saying it's this new desire he has to have relationships that gets him caught.
Box Office Mojo: What is the meaning of the series?

Okay...so they are basically saying that in DMC Jack has limited his freedom by caring for Elizbeth...he had freedom within his grasp and returned to the Black Pearl because he decided that caring what happened to someone else was more important than his own personal freedom.....Pirates have a reputation that they care for no one but themselves.....Jack makes himself vunerable to Elizabeth...and she takes advantage of this weakness....for her own ultimate freedom...so now she is a Pirate too....Jack does feel incomplete, he comes to realize that freedom isn't everything....what is freedom, really? He definitely was not free...he was running scared the entire movie...running from his fate...from Elizabeth, from Davy, from the Kraken and finally, the Pearl....but then something snaps and when Jack returns to the Pearl with the longboat...we see a new and different Jack, IMO. A strong, brave Jack that is putting others' before himself. The way Jack faces the Kraken, I was really proud of Jack at that moment, he was awesome. ..."there will come a moment when you have the chance to do the right thing.....you're going to do something really courageous and when you do, you'll discover something..that you are a good man.".....We already know the writers say that Jack hates that about himself...he hates that he has internal goodness....so what does he do at the beginning of AWE...he shoots his good side...because his good side always gets him in trouble, makes him weak and vunerable, in his book....
definitely. peolple always underestimate jack, i think that´s the fault. imo jack is a lot wiser and more mature than you actually think. when you watch the movies carefully there are moments that show the other side of jack. one of my favourite scenes is : "and you´re completely obsessed with treasure"..."not all treasure is silver and gold mate..."
i think that sais pretty much about jack. in my interpretation of jack sparrow it´s possible he falls in love with a women seriously, although i think he would hate admitting it, because, as you said, it would have effects on his freedom.
yes...freedom...this is very interesting...i think AWE will show us that jack is in fact good man and liz too but in both of them is also pirate side and i think it also will show us that jack realize freedom mustn´t be always the pearl and to be alone...he realize that he can be free with woman he loves...and maybe there will be a wedding 🙂 even he won´t be single he will be free...with a woman only woman he always loved and loves now...i think it will be awesome ending...🙂
yeah....i would love to see jack and elizabeth together...but disney is so traditional...and many "traditional" people are upset that Elizabeth would turn away from Will and go to Jack...but not me. I know that people's feelings can change...or not so much change, but that one can realize that what they thought was love was not the type of love that one has for a soulmate...or the person you are meant to be with...i think t and t messed with fire when they decided to acto on jack and elizabeth's chemistry...I don't think they realized how many people were going to love the fact of j/e together.....I think they thought people would be rooting for w/e...and there are some out there..but the passion for j/e is overwhelming....and I don't think t and t realized what would happen....and now they've backed themselves into a corner...

And this is so true...the writers even talk about this in the commentary of POTC/COTBP....Jack acts the way he does to keep his enemies off-guard..he want others to think he is drunk and doesn't know what he is doing...when in fact he is ten steps ahead of everyone else...Jack is the smartest person out there..very clever, very smart, very mischevious...just take the scene when he "commondeers" the Interceptor....when Norrington looks at him on the Dauntless it looks as thought he doens't have a clue how to sail a ship "that has got to be the worst Pirate I have ever seen"...and then we find out that as the sailors are storming the Dauntless..Jack and Will swing over to the Interceptor and he has disabled the runner chains, etc...and then we have one of Norrington's men say "that has got to be the best Pirate I have ever seen"...and Norrington says "so it would seem."......this scene better than any other shows what kind of Pirate Jack really is...
He seems less clever in DMC...because he is vexed...he is developing feelings for a woman and his time is up with Davy Jones...so he is not focused, he can't think clearly....jack's equilibruim is all messed up....
