Do any of you know who the Peoria Mustangs are?
The Peoria Mustangs made a three day road trip through the Detroit and Toledo area this past weekend. The trip started Friday night in Motor City. The chiefs got the early lead from Clay Mattson's goal in the first.Eric Meyer used the powerplay to tie the game at one goal aside near the midway point of the second. Ian Chornoby too the lead back for the Chiefs three minutes later at 12:18. Sean McGaughy got Peoria back to even with a powerplay goal of his own. That lead did not last long as Ian Chornoby put home a short handed goal less than a minute later, his second goal of the game just over two minutes apart.
The third period was all Peoria as Alec Hagaman scored at 4:36. Team Captain Cal Getschmann put in the game win at the 15:14 mark of the third.
Saturday night the Mustangs did not fair as well. The Toledo Cherokee took the first period 2-0 with goals from Tom Higgins and Korey Abbeglen.
The Mustangs struck back with some force to start the second getting three straight goals. Cal Getschmann scored first at 2:17. Derek Masterson followed up with two goals of his own in a span of 2:06. Peoria was not able to hold the 3-2 lead for long. At 15:57 the Cherokee tied the game on Mike Faiall's goal. Korey Abbeglen got Toledo's final goal late in the second period. Neither team was able to score in the third period.
Sunday's game started with a with a bang for Peoria as the took a 3-0 lead just past the mid point of the first period in their meeting with the Metro Jets. Steve Marino, Sean McGaughy and Cal Getschman each earned a goal in the early portion of the game. Nick Kenney got the Jets back into the game with two goal in the second half of the opening period.
Sean McGaughy gave the Mustangs some breathing room at 12:23 of period number two. With Peoria up 4-2 Nick Johnson drew Metro back within one goal. Metro was not able to tie the game up and both teams went scoreless until the 19:40 point of the third period. Alec Hagaman capped of the game and the weekend with an empty net goal.
The Mustangs have a three game home weekend starting Friday February 3rd as the Quad City Express come in for one game. That will be followed by a two game visit from the Cleveland Jr Lumberjacks on Saturday night and Sunday after noon. Get out the Owen Center and enjoy some action packed Mustang hockey!
