Yes, but it does not help in aiding calluses. You should have made yourself more clear.

If you get a canvas bag and tape/wrap your wrists but leave your knuckles bare, you will get calluses.

Lol?

Found this on a self proclaimed 'Kung Fu Magazine Forum'

Very simple, start doing what I am about to do. This does not require anything other than about 15$!

By some sand, place it in a canvas sac, hang it from your ceiling and presto....start hitting the base (as where sand packs) lightly. Over time your strikes will increase in speed and your knuckles will get conditioned. The good thing here is that training this way will leave no real marks on your knuckles and you don't need ointment afterwards, just give your knuckles a rest. Forget Iron training for now...who really has the time. This will do wonders for your knuckles, elbows and palms if you wanna smack the sac too. Plus, if you are hitting wrong with the back of your hand, you'll feel it when you hit the sac...

That's it, enjoy.

I think that later in life you can get some bone problems by doing it.
Jus my opinion

be a man, if you're gunna punch someone, don't prepare for it for ages before hand, go n smack em one so what if you mess up your knuckles a bit.

Bricks work faster than sand I didn't want to spend all day punching sand.

Yeah, who would want to spend all day punching sand? Idiots?

Bricks are the way forward if you want to spend all day punching something.

I'm glad that's sarcasm. bored

It's pointless to do it unless you are planning to fight someone. If so then you punch a brick wall just hard enough to where it hurts. Over time it will hurt less and you will punch harder and with time it won’t hurt at all, but it takes a very long time.

It will make the skin over your knuckles ruff and hard to the touch but no real permanent damage.

Don't listen to this. *Sigh* I can't believe you'd tell him to do that.

THERE IS PERMANENT DAMAGE!

Take it from me, I've been in TKD (Taekwondo- A Korean Style of Martial Arts), and boxing for 5 years. I have no feeling on my knuckles on my right hand when I punch.

BUT! Because I have no feeling, the doctors say that over time, my hand could become completely useless. And not only that, but I also have arthritis in both my hands from hit shit over and over again.

Don't* do this to your hands. There is permanent damage and it's nothing to be proud of to be able to hit something and not feel it. It's stupid and it's too much pain in the long run.

just don't over do it that's all. don't go on punching for more that a few minutes. some people go on punching and THAT is dangerous. also wall hitting IS dangerous especially if you are doing it without having those wrappings around your hands.
to sum it up:

-don't punch the walls without wrapping your hands
-don't punch the sandbag/sandbasket for too long. punch for a little while, take a break, punch again.
-don't punch it EVERY DAY. do it one day after the other.

and finally....
-don't believe all the sh!t you see on TV and badly dubbed Hong Kong movies. 😛

It's sad that people have to be told not to stand there punching a wall or a brick.

I was reading through this thread thinking "Who are these idiots?", and then I got to your post, and I started laughing.

I am now typing words that appear before my eyes on my computer screen. Soon, I will stop. Soon...Now.

I am glad you laughed, it increases the chances that you will put out.

Not that it was ever really in question, but still.

Hehehe, all these endorphins are making me giddy! Hehehehe...

It's about time somebody came up with a scientific name for these things. They're like cockroaches; they're all over the place and they won't let you kill them.
