Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

I don;t mind that a SW game messes up continuity; I do mind when the makers claim it does not and are blatantly lying.

As for making a mockery of the universe- the point is, WHY do you play a Star Wars game? As opposed to, say, Mass Effect?

You do it because you like the franchise and what is in the franchise, so regardless of your commentary there, if the game completely messes up that feel so it is no longer like the francvhise at all, it is a. pointless and b. makes for a much worse game.

And once more, I only have to point out that the Star Wars games that DID care about the source material enough to not become so ludicrous have been the best one.

I actually despair of people who think such objections have no vaidity because it is their acceptance of such lazy shite that inflicts bland gaming upon everyone.

Well its a game and I'm going to treat it like one.. and give it fair judgement.. as games aren't supposed to rely on their name alone to sell..

Do I expect this game to be great? I'm leaning towards no for now

but bashing this game solely based on anger towards continuity is unfair, IMO, especially from a gamer's standpoint.

if the game is gonna suck.. it should suck because it sucks as a game

unfortunate that they chose star wars to do it? maybe... we still didnt hear their excuse for why any of this is happening story-wise either

I mean.. sure they asked george lucas if it could be canon... but who broke his arm to say yes?.... he coulda said no, and noone would be complaining right now.. so who's fault is it really?

so I'm still holding judgement.. but with a smile of course

You know, a game sucking because it doesn't feel anything like it should is it still sucking as a game. Same as if the plot is shit because it pays no regards to its source. That's also part of the game.

What it should feel like?.. its their game.. its feeling like they want it to feel...which is apparently also how george lucas wants it to feel, as he's working "very closely" with the development team as nearly every interview with the team states

if george lucas doesnt give a damn about paying source regards.. why waste your energy?

Ironic you say that, because if you just pillage the background without actually making a proper effort for it to FEEL like the background, then using the name to sell is precisely what you are doing.

And the fact remains that there is established contunuity that the people that DID put in that effort... made the best games. Again, I find it very perturbing that people accept such second-rate effort.

As I said earlier in the thread, being cavalier here is indicative of having a sloppy attitude to creating the game in general.

In any case, it is not at all unreasonable to expect a licsensed game to actually try and reflect that license.

I'd take that GL commentary with a pinch of salt, btw. He doesn't massively care about EU produce in that respect.

(once again, btw, I'll point out that I don't care about the continuity- it just bugs me that they would be so misleading about it).

I am not sure I follow your position. Are you pissed about EU continuity (Or the lack thereof) or is this a diatribe about star wars fanboys?

This is my take...

I could don't really care how well it follows the EU. I want it to follow it fairly well...but I don't mind small contradictions or alterations in the story. It has to be fun and I love this concept of the Force being super powered. Surely the story can't be that messed up.

This game has me excited. I am really really looking forward to this game.

Yet he's allowing people to market EU, and this game, with the star wars seal of approval... who's really the one accepting the second-rate effort here? 🙂

I wouldnt imply it unreasonable... but they're just trying something new.. GL could easily write it off as a work of fan-fiction if he so chose

without the starwars license.. this game would probably succeed anyway... as there are far worse games on the market right now that manage to get by

what exactly is misleading? the game was marketed as having overblown force powers from day one

No it wasn't. It was just called Force Unleashed because it sounded cool.

I guess you forgot that there were videos before they even gave the game a name?

"Next-Gen Star Wars game" was its title.. just to refresh ya memory

I hope they don't mess up this one...

Looks awesome. Of course they are not done with the game but it does look like it is going to by buggy, similar to Mass Effect.

I know this sounds corny, but I really like the fancy lightsaber moves...it makes me feel like a super hero/villain. 😮

indeed 😄

haha cool 😛

No no, you're not alone. There's two things in recent memory that just give me an epic cinematic feeling in video games. One is an improbable-yet-sweet series of acrobatics/web swings in a Spider-Man game. The other is an elegant lightsaber duel.
