1.Yu Yu Hakusho-awesome well put together.
2.DBZ- Got me into watching anime also a good show.
3.S-cry-ed- because of its originality and awesomeness.
4.Digimon- childhood favorite fell off in he later seasons though(3 &4)
5.Pokemon- because the original pokemon took the world by storm.

My personal favorites would be:
BLOOD+ ~ one of the best endings I have ever seen in anime history
Clannad ~ no other anime series to date has made me cry like a little girl as much as this series did...
AIR TV ~ ...besides this
Ranma 1/2 ~ pure nostalgia
Pokemon ~ got hooked when I was kid, never veered away since then
DBZ ~ one of the anime essentials, especially if you're a guy
Neon Genesis Evangelion ~ up there with Death Note
Revolutionary Girl Utena. Without a shadow of a doubt. Its probably the best work of Anime, Media and ultimately Art I have ever witnessed in my life. Nothing compares to the sheer emotion of the final episode. Nothing has such characters and metaphors. Not even Kannazuki no Miko (probably my second choice) made me cry. RGU did.
Its a work of pure genius. Madness too, I'll admit, but genius nontheless.
