xmeat, I don't know much about either character, but judging from what I know off-hand, Spike Thing's biggest asset is his durability/resistance. (possibly way more than his strength). But besides strength, he has relatively no other offensive powers that I know of. He's the ultimate brick. Black Adam is too versatile for one, has way more feats, and isn't as dumb as thing.
