Under rated

Rugby is a sport that has been seriously under rated in the USA. I want everyone to know about this wondrous sport. RUGBY FTW!!

In rugby, the aim is to get the elongated ball to the try zone at the opposite end of the 100 yd pitch. This is called a try. Doing so scores 5 points, and you then have to attempt to make a conversion, in which you have to kick the ball between to posts, and above a 3rd in between. This gives you and extra 2 points.

The twist is, you can only pass the ball by throwing it backwards. How ever you can kick it forwards.

The team is made up of 15 players, 8 forwards and 7 backs.

Tackling is simple, but sometimes painful. To tackle, you have to get the opposing player (carrying the ball) to the ground, where you can then pick it up (as long as you are not on the ground as well), or set up a ruck. In the ruck, the forwards bridge over the player/s on the ground and push really hard against the opposing players. Then, the scrum half (a back) picks up the ball and passes it back out into play.

Occasionally, a scrum will be called. The two forwards make get into certain positions and have a sort of super ruck. the scrum half puts the ball into the scrum, on the ground. The two teams push, and then try and get the ball to come out of the scrum towards their team.

any questions?

P.S, Vinny will probs have a go at me for getting something wrong, but a proof read is always welcome.

Rugby sucks. Football rules. Especially with no pussy paddings.

That's becasue American football really doesn't leave North America much.

In Rugby tackling is a lot more complex than you stated LIS. Illegal tackles do exist.

yes, i know. high tackles is really the only thing though.

a high tackle is a tackle around the neck or face. also, punching, kicking or tripping against the rules. The main way to tackle is to grab the persons legs and pull them to the ground. the tackle-ee can offload the ball; a pass whilst they are falling.

wow. i need to check out more of KMC 😕 i never even knew there was a sports forum 😂

Also, what about penalties and drop goals... And lineouts?

Just throwing this in there, because I'm not sure...

Can you hit someone from behind in rugby?

Wicked.

As my favorite teacher stated in school to me:

"You'll always be faster then someone big trying to tackle you.... If you're running for your ****ing life."

Well, you can tackle someone's legs from behind... but not their back really, because that's seen as a dangerous tackle. It's really up to the referee in declaring what's dangerous and what's not.

A drop goal is where you simply take a kick at the posts, not after a try. You get 3 points for this. In a penalty, the tactics vary, so it is hard to describe. Basically, one of the players (normally the scrum half, he does a lot 😛) taps the ball on his foot, then passes it to someone who does a fancy bit of footwork, and play continues. Also, a penalty can be a scrum. A lineout is incurred when the ball leaves play, or goes 'into touch'. In a lineout, the ball is thrown in from where the ball went out. If the ball did not bounce before going out (in a kick's case) then it is from where the kick was (at the edge of the pitch).

A penalty can also be kicking for 3 points and kicking for a lineout. and a lineout is when a ball is thrown straight by a player on the opposing team to the person who kicked the ball in to touch (minus penalty) to two lines of players, one from each team.

no, a tackle on the back is fine. Only a tackle at the neck height or head is dangerous and against the law. Also, if one or both of the players are jumping or in the air and there is a tackle, that is a foul to.

Clarifying lineouts:

When the ball is thrown in, two lines of players (one from each time) lines up in front of the thrower. The thrower makes a call to tell his own team where the ball is going (in code) so they can make a jump at the right place. The player then jumps or is lifted to reach the ball and catch it. Players are often tackled immediately after this, so it is crucial that the other forwards and backs are ready.
Remember, a tackle in mid-air is illegal.
