No it's not. judges do that all the time in court. They have rules like that in real debate contest as well. Where you have to prove your point without actually touching the other debator's point. It would be like someone trying to prove our sun's gravitational pull against someone else trying to prove a black hole's pull. You don't have to point out any thing about the other debator's theory if you are good. your argument can be sound proof.
