For tomorrow...I could use some help, please!!!

Ok, i just recently got back into the comic scene. I have always been a marvel fan through and through, but held love for superman seeing as he is my favorite hero. I generally stayed away from the superman comics though, seeing how they were stitched together with a very loose plot line and ever changing history. I picked up the jim Lee serie.s (for tomorrow) and was quite impressed with the story line, but am very much in the dark. I want to continue where the For tomorrow series left off, but need some major clarification.

So i am hoping some one can take the time to explain to me what happend to the lead up of that series and possibly a brief synopsis of what has happend since. The series starts out with superman confessing his sins to a priest. His sins were apparently constructing a device that could house humanity incases of a catostrophic event that supes couldnt prevent. however, this device somehow coused "the vanishing" Where a large number of people simply dissapeared into the device that superman created. I guess supes used some technology which connected this new world with the shadow realm? what is the shadow realm? It explains that it was where the villans from krypton were sent. When entering this world superman fought someone called equus, who is equus. Can anyone help me out here, i want to get back into the superman comics very badly? thanks

i am not an expert, so i could be mistaken!

Shadow realm i believe is refering to the phantom zone, i think supes used the tech and parts of the phantom zone to create the device that caused the vanishing

Equis is the same monster he fought outside in the real world, who was working for the general,he got sent into the device( and his features are warped i think), while fighting him in the real world eventually supes uses his vision to see Equis was a human that had been geneticly created, notice the same happens to the priest-after the Merc kinda tricks him(saves him from cancer)

i thought this run was pretty good, i am not sure what it leads directly into, but given enough time these boards will let you know

You've missed quite a lot since "For Tomorrow". In fact recently the arc has been retconned. Basically the arc was a General Zod story in which the vanishing transported everyone to the phantom zone. The new action comics series is probably the new canon on the history of general Zod. "Last son" already has me drawn in more than "For Tomorrow".

I had another question was hoping someone could help me out with

Who is mongruls father? I am reading the no limits series, they mention several times that the coast city was detroyed, does anyone know what they are talking about?

Also, the biggest question. After for tomorrow, there is a man telling superman about the coming future where he dies. The comics of course are told through the perspective of lois lane, she is reporting from years into the future where general zod as reigned supreme humanity is dying and lex luthor is a good guy. Near the end of this series a zombie superman returns to fight zod. The series ends with the man telling superman that this future is destined to happend.

Who is this man, how did superman die, and where did zod come into the picture, because currently in the series i dont see zod any where? I am really lost and could use some help because im trying to get back into the superman comics, they seemed to have matured a bit more than even the marvel comics.

Coast City was destroyed during the Reign of the Supermen during Superman's death period. 4 SuperMEN came to take his place, the Cyborg Superman turned up evil, and allied with Mongul and destroyed Coast City. This event later caused Emerald Twilight for the Green Lanterns, and then lead into Zero Hour where Hal tried to rewrite reality.

Mongul's father was . . Mongul. The original Mongul died during Underworld Unleashed for trying to fight Neron. He had a daughter and a son. The son took on the Mongul name, and the daughter was Mongal I believe. The son ended up killing the sister as well, making him the last remaining.

DC's comics have always been more mature.

Hey thanks alot man, That clears much confusion for me. do you by anychance know who it was telling superman of the future that beholds him in the series tomorrow people?

Yeah, as far as the sub market was concerned Dc was always more wiling to take chances with mature comics, prime examples...hellblazer, watchmen. Concerning the mainstream market though. During the ninties when i was heavy into the mainstream comics, I always felt x-men, punisher, wolverine, and even certain iron man, captain america series were more mature and better written. One they were far less convoluted, and didnt have as many comic sterotypes as dc. Batman i always thought and still do aside from the dark knight and the events leading to issue 500 were silly.

This trend seemed to ahve shifted from my departure and return to the comic mainstream though. The marvel comics of late have become more convoluted than Dc ever was. With numerous different universe story arcs its mind boggeling to try to keep up. The spiderman comics all 30 different titles from firendly neighbor hood spiderman, to astonoshing offer terrible illustrations, and childish story lines. The x-men comics have become geared towards young teens more than ever, save uncanny. Having both the mighty avengers and the new avengers makes no sense what so ever to me. Even though the artwork is decent. The ultimates offers very good artwork, but has completely re written the characters we have come to know, which seems kind of cheap to me. I guess having invested 15 years in marvel characters means nothing to marvel, because they have the balls to re write the characters instead of just placing them in more inovative and mature story lines.

Dc has caught my eye with some of there newer reworkings in the stories in the wake of the early 90's. Even though there is a sparce silly comic every once and a while...superdog?... 😕 Marvel, i spit on their current run of comics
