True, but Why would he say that then and all of a sudden change his mind. Maguire knows in an instant he can be replaced. It almost happened once, so it could happen permanently. I still think Maguire and co. will start contract talks after Spidey 3 becomes successful.
I don't see what the big deal is about that Sci-Fi article. We've known all along that he's open to Spider-Man 4 if there are "stories left to tell." (Which is bullsh*t, stories left to tell = 30 million.)
He basically just reiterated what he's said in the past. Personally, I think we will see a fourth, with or without Maguire/Dunst/Raimi, but it won't happen for at least another five years.

Except that recently both him and Dunst have gotten firmer on it not happening, with Maguire saying: "It feels like a whole story. It feels like a trilogy, and it feels like the end." and Dunst saying "Don't even joke about that" when asked if Sony is moving ahead with another film without her or Tobey or Sam Raimi.
Your last statement is what I think is the most likely.

Once again Spidey four will happen. Whether its with Maguire, Dunst and Raimi remains to be seen. I think that they will start contract talks in a matter of weeks.
