Inter team Tounrey drafts round 2

Started by leonidas18 pages

pierce is all right. not quite as heavy as some in the tournament. he was a surprising pick and one that not a lot of people would recognize. i only recall a couple of arcs with him in them, but he seemed pretty tough.

that's what confirmation threads are for. 🙂

But surprisingly I was talking about YOUR team 😛

So ..... who is this Pierce guy?

We'll as you can see below .We've been told we can take part as long as we use known characters 😬 from Marvel etc. this helps out many of the participents in this tourny quite a lot and rather restricts us and our creativity. Devil Lances pm.

Okay but can you please try and cope with my lack of Comic knowledge

I jsut got into comci 3-4 years ago so a bunch of the chaacters you are trying to pick came before my time so I don't know them very well.

Can you please pick an less obscure character anyone from Darkhorse, Image, Wildstorm,Vertigo, DC,Marvel should be fine

That's O.K. neither does Darkcrawler or Scoobless. 🙂

...No, I don't really think your comic knowledge had anything to do with it. 😐

If knowing stuff would be reason to be banned, our entire team and many others would have been banned ages ago.

😎

😬 Actually no.... You wouldn't as most knowledge you both display is very mainstream.....

This is a Marvel dominated forum...

It doesn't reflect badly on you really 😉

Mainstream knowledge is still knowledge ... and pretty much everything brought up here that bares commenting on is Mainstream.

Most non-mainstream titles are only in that category because they aren't good enough to captivate a wider audience.

Actually no, most non mainstream titles find it very difficult to break into a market dominated by recognisable characters with strong fan bases. Comics fans only usually have so much money to spend. The major companies also have huge financial clout and issue law suits at the drop of a hat. Take the Warriors of Plasm law suit, which even though Marvel lost, destroyed Defiant. Also when a small company is successful like Valiant was it only fills a niche and when Voyager communications were bought out be Acclaim the money was mismanaged despite reasonable sales. Eclipse also could have been contenders but parent company financial mismanagement led to it's demise. Your above simplistic answer only really gives an exclamation mark to my initial comment.

I will grant you though, you are one of the few on this board who is a true comics fan and does know for the most part what you talk about.

Well, you shouldn't have been banned because you wanted to use less known characters...I'll say that. That whole indie attitude comes off a bit elitist though.

It's not meant to be elitist exactly......

Yeah I don't care if they use Indie characters or not.

Honestly Indie characters generally do worse in tourneys from what I've seen.

The fact is that they aren't well known therefore the Judge has a harder time buying the stuff they can do. That leads to the fact that people have to spend more time defining that character instead of producing an argument.

Its just the nature of the beast it is easier to believe things from more well known characters then lesser ones.

It's not that he was trying to use indie characters, it's that they were outright cheating. They kept trying to draft Master Darque, a necromancer and sorcerer, when I said several times that magic was banned. And after that, they tried to draft the marvelman winter, who is far over the caps.

Master Darque uses the Darque force.... Not magic.

It's debateable Winter is over the caps. She has never battled anyone by the way.

Lying on both counts. Winter was flying interplanetary distances/speeds under her own power. And Darque is a necromancer. That means magic.

Little is known about Master Darque. He was born in 1802, and soon delved into magic, or more specifically, the Black Arts. He became apprentice to sorcerer Anton Quigley, and the two made a horrifically evil pair.

Quigley, with his arcane knowledge, and Darque, who's earthly frame held necromantic energy were well prepared to wreak havoc upon the law-abiding universe.

Powers/Abilities: Darque is a powerful necromancer.

Now, will you shut the f*ck up about him?

Wiki isn't a good source the Darque force is not magic the valiant Universe had no magic in it, even Geomancy relies on a "kind of Science". Winter wasn't sure if she could break the ftl barrier, how far she travelled to enter Qys space is debateable and it took her months. As they own most of the known Galaxy it might have been just past the moon, In a Winters tale we have no way of really knowing as it was written and drawn in the style of a childs book. She was never seen as Flying that fast. Miracleman never flew faster than mach 3. 🙂

It's like Mar vell you really don't know what you're talking about.

🙂

As for cheating, a number of people have got characters that appear over the caps in. 🙂 It's just you lot don't have a clue about the characters i'm using.

Donald Pierce, the Cyborg member of the Hellfire Club(Or should I say Inner Circle). Either way he's well, well within the caps...if you know what I mean.

Eh...interesting choice though, I want to see how they plan on using him.

Flame On, we alreayd had this conversation. Stop acting like you have all the answers with picks that won't even be happening. You have some indie comic knowledge.....get over it.

the indie/mainstream debate is interesting though. there are a LOT of great books out there -- SOME are independent. there is also a lot of independent trash -- like there is a lot of mainstream trash.

i don't think its completely fair to denegrate -- not that flame was necessarily denegrating them -- mainstream characters. after all, it is harder for creative teams to BE original when they do not even own the charatcers they work with. 😬 independents have more FREEDOM to be creative in a lot of cases. not to mention mainstream characters have REMAINED mainstream BECAUSE readers like them the way they are.

in this tournament, (and from what i've seen in the past) lesser known characters do NOT do as well, in general though. 😬 people tend to believe more in what they've seen, and maybe more importantly, what they've READ in the forum. i don't think most take tournaments as 'learning opportunities. though maybe they CAN be used as such.

besides, i happen to know very well mr flame on that your knowledge is . . . more than adequate when it comes to mainstream material. 😉

I agree there is an elitist attitude against Indie comics. But with good scans, a respect thread, and some strong debating, indie characters can be viable in tournaments. For example, in Evangel's last tournament, we had our first indie character as part of a winning team: Spawn. So there is a growing respect for them IMO. My problem with Flame On!! as I've stated, is that he was trying to cheat and sneak in characters who were either using banned abilities, or over the caps. Some people took the opportunity to bash his using indie characters, which was wrong. If he had stopped trying to cheat, or break caps, then he would have gotten in and he'd have been able to get more notice and respect for his indie characters. Basically, he shot himself in the foot. 😛
