I refuse to play WoW for 2 very good reasons.

1. It's a HORRIBLE game. I tried once, and almost puked at how bad it is compared to most games I've played.
2. Why would I want to pay 15 bucks a month to play a game that has last generation 3-D Graphics, a huge spell/skill/armor system that makes no sense to people, besides those who spend their entire lives devoted to it, and has barely any updates, even though I've heard so many complaints about things that should be fixed.

New content in the form of a major patch comes out every few months. Bugs/environment/class fixes maybe every few weeks at most. And so far expansions on an almost annual basis (WotLK in March I believe).

I don't think people would pay $15 USD per month, continuously, if it had the same old boring content forever. This game has gone quite a long way since its release. Being a player about a month after it first came out and having been there for every major content patch, I would say that only someone who's high enough in-game level to actually experience the new content firsthand should have validity to argue otherwise because it's the end-game content that always gets updated.

Which doesn't give any new and exciting content for newer players if they have more than one character and different classes. Unless they make fixes to difficulty in those areas, such as how hard certain creatures are to kill and their level, that can make the game pretty boring.

Now, if I had nothing else to do in my free time, I would actually sit down and take up the game. Instead, I'm focusing on a game somewhat identical to it, Guild Wars, which I am sorry to say is in a sharp decline, even after it's expansion arrived at the end on August. Now it's only a waiting room for Guild Wars 2, and then it's done. If GW2 isn't as good as we all hope it to be, then I'll pick up WoW.

I thought about playing WoW, but......no.

It's happened before, they've added instances, zones, quests, etc for the players you so described. However this was all before the Burning Crusade came out. When that happened, the vast majority of players already had a level 60 and were doing the 20 and 40-man raids endgame. A scant two months later the vast majority of players now owned at least one 70. Small wonder where they focus on in terms of new content.

They don't think too much about the players levelling up, they do help out however, most recent was faster levelling. Catering for players new to the game that joined only in the past few months when they're still technically wet-behind-the-ears, adding even newer content is essentially a lost cause. Besides, with all the people that have made it to 70, there's numerous levelling guides out anyways.

I don't play it

How long did you play the game, may I ask, and how long ago? As far as graphics go they are better than everquest and comparable to LOTR ( which I god-forsakenly hate, mind you ).

As for the experience for new players, I thought it was great when I started. I wouldn't have perservered had I not. I personally know a TON of others have begun it, and it's because of the new installments offered to newer players that they stay hooked.

Spoiler:
And GW isn't near identical. Sorry.

and druids? Sure; they can tank , heal, and cast. wow!

but guess what? anyone with any sanity prefers a warrior for tanking, a priest for healing or a mage ( god knows why anyone would want to play them anyhow. - Overpowered locks ftw! -) for casting. πŸ˜„

πŸ˜›

* Warlocks are overpowered - Point agreed!

* Druids can heal, tank, melee-DPS and cast. WOW!

* - Warrior are in most cases the most effective tank there is, but a late game druid has more armor and health than a warrior. That is a strong advantage in certain boss battles, such as tanking the bear in Zul'Aman.

- The priest is probably the most dedicated healer, but in a lot of situations a druid healer is more effective. They have a lesser manapool but greater mana-effectivity. Their HoTs got gimped to the skies in previous patches and their tree-form grants them wicked bonus in healing. They are better survivalists than priests (Save Fade) and can keep the entire party up at the same time to no mana cost at all. An epic druid healer who knows form-dance is the best PvP healer and the absolute most effective outdoor healers there is. With a 70% healing crit and Swiftmend, three HoTs and greatly increased healing effectivity, along with innervate, a single target can live an eternity with a dedicated druid healer with the right build.

- The mage has higher direct damage, while a warlock is more a time-based dealer (Save destruction). The mage has more effective and more comfortable crowd control and has better threat management. They also have the ability to slow targets with up to 70% in speed or freeze them at place. Even if a mage has a tough time matching a warlock in damage (Destruction warlocks), they are in most cases a far better choice as companion.

1. 10.000.000 active players disagrees with you.

2. The last generation 3-D Graphics allows a larger varity of players to interact and grants smoother gameplay. Less requirement of hardware and less lag. Therefore making more people bare playing it trough without growing wary.
The huge spell/skill/armor system makes a lot of sense if you are the slightest interested in learning. Sure, I guess lazy people with no sense for mathematics and without an open mind could have problems with it.
Those who spend their entire lives with it does it for the specific reason that it HAS patches, updates and so on. Just about every second/third month there is patches with great new content which brings challenges to both casual and hardcore players.

In the next patch for example, which should come sometime soon- a raiding dungeon as well as a 5-man party instance will be unlocked. Along with that, an entire new landscape, hundreds of new quests and the players in the realms get to build a city.

Along with that content, they are also adding new things all over Azeroth for all levels. They adjust faults, assist the little people and adds new items.

THAT is why people stick around. Blizzard is also working very hard to reduce the hardcore requirement. They have stopped making 40-man raids and good gear is far easier to obtain (Still comes with challenge) and less timetaking.

Along with that, some people play for the entire lore. World of Warcraft has the deepest, most amazing and fascinating in-game history in the history of computer-games. If you read the books, you get only a glimps of how big the lore is.
By playing the game, you live trough a large number of things that you learn in the book. Simply that keeps a lot of players playing.

Woah... look what i have started...

I've honestly tried to quit... Just can't cause there isn't really an MMO out there that i think is better suited for me.. and im sure many people agree.. millions at that

WotLK will obviously keep a lot of people, me for one. I'm sure it might even bring back a lot of people as well.. i mean com'on.. its arthas

I like discussing World of Warcraft! I am crazy in the lore and I think it is as close to perfection as a game can get πŸ˜›

WotLK! It even made me want to come back! I soooooo want to kill that man!

hello WC πŸ˜„

and hi Lady Fox πŸ˜„

God, I get so angry at times!

I was reading a little about the special contents in current WoW. There is this bow that you can only use while fighting Kael'Thaz at that prison place. A legendary bow for hunters and other legendaries for respective classes.

There was this kid (16 I believe) that had a fatal sickness and had a greater chance of dying than living. His great joy in life was World of Warcraft. He got applied to one of those "Make a Wish"-shows for sick children and people in need. Since he did not have many hobbies, friends or such, he made a wish concerning World of Warcraft.

He wished to have the bow (That only was usable in the Kael'Thaz fight due to its massive power) for his hunter. The show contacted blizzard concerning this matter and they gladely granted his wish. His hunter was given the legendary bow and he is the only person in the world that has it outside the Kael'Thaz fight and inside the world.

It did not take long until WoW players started complaining. They said it was unfair that he was allowed to have it and others were not. They almost demanded Blizzard to remove the bow from the boy's hunter and many threatened to stop playing WoW.

How can people be so..... stupid? So what if he has the most powerful bow there is (and will be for a very long time). So what if he is the only one? How can people want to bring joy out of a dying child just because they get jealous/considering it unfair.

Hello πŸ˜„

I have the total opposite of an addictive personality, which is good for the obvious 'addiction' thing but not for seeing things through.

In other words, I think I'd get into an MMORPG all psyched-up and going 'yeah, boy!' and everything...

And then I'd start playing, and I'd be on every day for two weeks...

And after that I'd miss one day and fall into a habit of every other day...

And then once during the weekends...

...And then I'd get to the point at which I couldn't be arsed to log on even once a month. I think I'd enjoy WoW, but I'd never get anywhere. mmm

A common thought πŸ˜„

Some stick around while others quit after the first payment. However, if you keep an open mind to the game and enjoy games similar to WoW (RPG based), along with being together with friends and be social in the virtual world, World of Warcraft is perfect.

They could specify character creation a little more though πŸ˜› More details to the characters, making each and every one a little more unique πŸ™‚
