Time to slide into the conversation with my beloved theory crafting π

but guess what? anyone with any sanity prefers a warrior for tanking, a priest for healing or a mage ( god knows why anyone would want to play them anyhow. - Overpowered locks ftw! -) for casting. π

* Warlocks are overpowered - Point agreed!
* Druids can heal, tank, melee-DPS and cast. WOW!
* - Warrior are in most cases the most effective tank there is, but a late game druid has more armor and health than a warrior. That is a strong advantage in certain boss battles, such as tanking the bear in Zul'Aman.
- The priest is probably the most dedicated healer, but in a lot of situations a druid healer is more effective. They have a lesser manapool but greater mana-effectivity. Their HoTs got gimped to the skies in previous patches and their tree-form grants them wicked bonus in healing. They are better survivalists than priests (Save Fade) and can keep the entire party up at the same time to no mana cost at all. An epic druid healer who knows form-dance is the best PvP healer and the absolute most effective outdoor healers there is. With a 70% healing crit and Swiftmend, three HoTs and greatly increased healing effectivity, along with innervate, a single target can live an eternity with a dedicated druid healer with the right build.
- The mage has higher direct damage, while a warlock is more a time-based dealer (Save destruction). The mage has more effective and more comfortable crowd control and has better threat management. They also have the ability to slow targets with up to 70% in speed or freeze them at place. Even if a mage has a tough time matching a warlock in damage (Destruction warlocks), they are in most cases a far better choice as companion.

I refuse to play WoW for 2 very good reasons.1. It's a HORRIBLE game. I tried once, and almost puked at how bad it is compared to most games I've played.
2. Why would I want to pay 15 bucks a month to play a game that has last generation 3-D Graphics, a huge spell/skill/armor system that makes no sense to people, besides those who spend their entire lives devoted to it, and has barely any updates, even though I've heard so many complaints about things that should be fixed.

Which doesn't give any new and exciting content for newer players if they have more than one character and different classes. Unless they make fixes to difficulty in those areas, such as how hard certain creatures are to kill and their level, that can make the game pretty boring. Now, if I had nothing else to do in my free time, I would actually sit down and take up the game. Instead, I'm focusing on a game somewhat identical to it, Guild Wars, which I am sorry to say is in a sharp decline, even after it's expansion arrived at the end on August. Now it's only a waiting room for Guild Wars 2, and then it's done. If GW2 isn't as good as we all hope it to be, then I'll pick up WoW.
1. 10.000.000 active players disagrees with you.
2. The last generation 3-D Graphics allows a larger varity of players to interact and grants smoother gameplay. Less requirement of hardware and less lag. Therefore making more people bare playing it trough without growing wary.
The huge spell/skill/armor system makes a lot of sense if you are the slightest interested in learning. Sure, I guess lazy people with no sense for mathematics and without an open mind could have problems with it.
Those who spend their entire lives with it does it for the specific reason that it HAS patches, updates and so on. Just about every second/third month there is patches with great new content which brings challenges to both casual and hardcore players.
In the next patch for example, which should come sometime soon- a raiding dungeon as well as a 5-man party instance will be unlocked. Along with that, an entire new landscape, hundreds of new quests and the players in the realms get to build a city.
Along with that content, they are also adding new things all over Azeroth for all levels. They adjust faults, assist the little people and adds new items.
THAT is why people stick around. Blizzard is also working very hard to reduce the hardcore requirement. They have stopped making 40-man raids and good gear is far easier to obtain (Still comes with challenge) and less timetaking.
Along with that, some people play for the entire lore. World of Warcraft has the deepest, most amazing and fascinating in-game history in the history of computer-games. If you read the books, you get only a glimps of how big the lore is.
By playing the game, you live trough a large number of things that you learn in the book. Simply that keeps a lot of players playing.
