When they had the census in Australia where they got people to put Jedi down as their religion they ended up getting enough people to make it a valid religion, not sure if the authorities allowed it though.

No census in any Western Country has the power to create religions. All they do is classify answers given for filing purposes. If everyone wrote on the census that they worshipped clouds, then the census would note that everyone was saying they worshipped clouds- but as census officials everywhere where this nonsense came from said, these classifcations do not religions make.

If people do actually believe strongly in something and I mean really believe and even follow any teachings of, then would that not then be able to be considered a religion.
With so many different religions around they must have actually started from something, from some sort of belief or mis-understanding of something, so why would it not be possible for the same to happen again and for Jedi to actually become a religion?
