Shane Bernier (born May 30, 1999) is a Canadian boy with cancer who has made a request to receive as many birthday cards as possible on by 2007 birthday since it brings him joy. Shane may potentially break the world record for most birthday cards received.
Sickness
Shane is a Lancaster, Ontario resident who currently resides at Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario. He was diagnosed with a form of cancer known as acute lymphoblastic leukemia and has expressed the wish to receive as many birthday cards as possible, hoping to break the record held by Craig Shergold. As of mid-February 2007, he has already received several thousand cards.
A news report featuring Shane claimed that seeing his name on paper brings him joy, an important step towards recovery.
Record
Shane will be unable to officially break the Guinness World Record held by Craig Shergold. After a successful surgery and recovery, former cancer patient Craig continued to receive millions of cards yearly. Unable to stop the constant flow of mail his family was forced to move. Guiness discontinued the world record category in order to help prevent such problems from occurring in the future. As of 1992 permanent world record according to Guinness World Records, held by Craig, is about 33 million cards. Craig has reportedly received over 200 million cards as of 2007.
I'll still send a few though 🙂

Dear OTF,Shane has leukaemia and is 7 years old. He will be turning 8 on May 30th. In all likelihood, Shane will not see his 9th birthday. Shane is trying to get in the Guinness World Book of Records by receiving the most birthday cards ever. His parents do not want to receive any cards after May 30th. He is now receiving, and opening, about 2000 cards per day from friends all over the world.
If you would like to send Shane a birthday card please send to below:

CanadaI don't expect everyone to do this obviously, and more than likely a lot of you will make some joke about it or ignorant remark, but whatever, every card helps so if even one more comes out of this it's worth posting. 🙂
