I am a art fan first and story 2nd.
Seeing as your a fan of the art. I would highly suggest following Jim Lee. He is one of the most renowned comic pencilers and for good reason. He is the cat whom did the Dark knight series for batman. That series is a bit dated, but the art is still fantastic. also X-men extiction agenda, also by jim lee. Superman series...for tomorrow is a very excellent and current run. The art is superb and the story is nice.
Also look for kingdom come Dc
house of m...x-men. different art
Bloodties- x-men...my favorite x-men series.
house of M- Iron man
The new gunslinger series .
Dakness- some of the best comic art i have seen
Anything from the comic line IDW is pretty decent. IDW is graphic content, art work similar to todd mcfarlene
soulfire- new comic
iron fist-new comic line and pretty nice artwork
jim lee is probably the best artist your going to find with the most diversity. He has written for both marvel and dc

Or does that even matter?
Some good comics from DC I like, with great art/stories are,
Superman: Godfall arch
Hourman series
Kingdom Come
All-Star Superman
IC
Jack Kirby's 4th World, (only if you like the older art styles)
From Marvel,
The Authority
The Ultimates vol. 1
Insane Genis-Vell arch
Annihilation
Marvel Zombies
There's some off the top of my head. 🙂

im just curious...you seriously consider marvel zombies to be series of substance to follow? Atleast a series for a new commer to comics?
But for me it was just a fun comic to read.
Sure it wasn't the best material out there, but like I said, it was just a fun story that strayed away from the norm.

I am starting that..but finding most issues to complete runs are a pain in the A$$.
I purchased the entire Authority series (including one-shots) for under $50 on eBay. I'd check there.
Another suggestion I have is "The Walking Dead." The art is black and white, but it's so visceral and fitting for the story (mind you, I can't stand watching/reading forms of entertainment in black and white, but this comic had me hooked from the very beginning).
You'd also be able to find these trades on eBay. (I think there are five trade paperbacks out now.)

ALL STAR is that the best for SUPERMAN???The Ultimates Vol 1 and 2.....It looks good but I got both DVDs and I am worried about it sucking then big one.....Sick of Marvel changing every few months to make money.
" Heroes reborn" crap.
I would definitely recommend that series for sure.
And the Ultimates comics are MUCH better then the animated movies that were based on them.
I would recommend those as well, (especially if you're looking for great artwork).

The Ultimates Vol. 1 and 2 are some of the most well-written action comics you're going to find. They're seriously a great read.
Oh, and just so you don't think that Marvel's "changing every few months," the Ultimate universe has been around for more than six years now. It's here to stay. 😛
