Well in Canada it is not illegal at all. I use both of those sites quite allot for images but not all the time.

Stealing is illegal everywhere. No getting around that point.

Hotlinking is a crime. It's against the law and the person who does it is a thief and a criminal. Not only is it breaking the copyright law: Redistribution of artwork without the artist's permission... It's also bandwidth theft.

What world do you live where theft is legal?

Why can you not understand that hotlinking is theft?

Theft is defined very well under the criminal code.

And Vinny please show us under which section of the criminal code it is listed?

ffs read that

Theft is stealing anything that does not belong to you. Taking something that is not yours without permission is stealing.

By hotlinking you are stealing someone else's bandwidth that they paid for. You are using it without permission. Thus you are a thief.

Why do you think so many people who pay for private servers have anti-hotlinking images? So spoiled little idiots who don't think it's wrong can't get away with it.

I've owned and run my own websites that I've paid for myself for 5 years. I know very well that hotlinking is illegal, and yes, I have gone and changed images that people were hotlinking. They want to link stuff I store on my server, they can pay me for the bandwidth it uses.

I'm not saying you don't have a valid point and perhaps in the US it is a crime, but I know for a fact that in canada you can't be arrested for hotlinking.

I honestly didn't know it was such an issue. I'm not saying I'm going to do it anymore. Just that it's not the grave offence you make it out to be.

It's a crime everywhere. Not one that usually ever has anything done about it unless someone is losing a decent amount of money from, but it is a crime anywhere stealing is - which means everywhere.

Fine, continue to act like an entitled child then. Just use bloody imageshack, FFS.

Well, if it were, you'd probably sweet talk your ass out of jail and pass it off like nothing happened. haermm

I never said I wouldn't use it, copyright laws of a country don't extend everywhere, in many counties around the world downloading movies and music is perfectly legal. My point is theft is illegal all over, but not everyone considers it theft.

It has absolutely nothing to do with copyright, not sure why you're not getting it.

And just because someone doesn't consider it theft doesn't mean it isn't.

I would off this bag of invisible magic beans for KMC, "Here Raz, you know you want them".

No but if a country doesn't consider it theft then it is not for the people in that country.

And some ISP's like Bell Sympatico which i used to use don't have bandwidth charges.
